Welcome to a hit of hope.
Shakespeare said,
All the worlds a stage.
And he's right.
We perform our roles again and again.
And sometimes we really like our roles,
Our performances.
Sometimes we don't.
But then there might come a day when the performance is over.
When we no longer get to play the part we're so used to playing.
When we no longer get to be with that person.
And we can exit the stage,
Pack our bags,
And literally or metaphorically climb aboard a stinky old bus and ride into the dark and soul-crushing night.
And we can tear ourselves apart as we wonder,
What's next?
God that can suck.
Because all you know is what has been.
And who knows what will come.
And the more important the role was to you,
The more important the person was to you,
The harder this will be.
If that particular performance is over,
If you no longer get to play that part or be with that person,
If you are huddled backstage in the dark wondering,
What's next?
Do not encore your sufferings.
Do not encore your failings.
Do not encore your regrets or shortcomings.
Do not do an encore full of fear and trembling.
When you are in the dark wondering,
What's next?
Dream bigly.
Open your mouth and your heart widely.
Encore yourself,
Your new self,
With attitude,
Joy,
And confidence.
You are feckin' fierce.
Step back into the light.
Bring new work to the stage,
Bold work.
Push yourself.
Try new things.
And then hear the audience roar.
You are feckin' awesome.
Namaste.
