Today,

I'm going to provide you with a calming 10-minute gratitude meditation to welcome in the winter solstice.

This meditation's been designed to help you connect with nature's cycles,

Embrace stillness and cultivate gratitude for the gifts of the season to come.

Find a comfortable position,

Either seated with your back straight or lying down.

Close your eyes,

Relax your shoulders and let's take a few deep breaths together.

With each inhale,

Invite the calmness and with each exhale,

Let go of the tension.

Let's also begin by grounding ourselves.

Feel the surface beneath you.

Place your palms of your hands on the earth or the floor that's below you.

Imagine a root system that's growing through your sit bones or your back and anchoring and grounding you deeply into the earth.

Sense the stability and how solid it feels.

It's a foundation you can lean on and lean into anytime you need it.

The winter solstice marks the longest night and the shortest day of the year.

It is a time of stillness,

Of honoring the darkness and welcoming the return of the light.

As we meditate,

We embrace the gifts of winter,

Quietness,

Reflection and renewal.

Deepen your breath and become aware of your breath.

Take a slow deep breath in,

Hold it for a moment and then exhale fully with a sigh.

Feel your lungs expand as you breathe in deeply again and release tension as you breathe out.

Let's take one more breath like this and let this breath connect you to your body and the present moment.

Let's embrace the stillness that the winter solstice brings.

Imagine yourself surrounded by the quiet,

A peacefulness,

A stillness that winter brings.

Picture a gentle snowy landscape where everything is calm and the world is softened by the snow and all is quiet.

You're walking down a snow-covered trail as the snowflakes gently land on your face as you look up and gaze into the vast magical sky above.

Let this peacefulness and beauty surround you,

Fill you and calm you.

Embrace the stillness that winter brings.

It's a time of rest and introspection for you.

Let's give gratitude to the cycles of nature.

Now bring your mind to gratitude.

Thank the earth for all its seasons,

For the growth in the spring,

The warmth of the summer and the sun,

The abundance of the harvest in fall and the restfulness and peace of winter.

Each season has a purpose in our lives.

It brings us wisdom,

Just as our own phases of life bring us purpose and wisdom.

Silently repeat to yourself,

Thank you earth for the wisdom in your cycles.

Thank you winter for teaching me to have stillness and patience.

In the quiet of winter,

The light of the soul shines even brighter.

Though you may find yourself surrounded in darkness outside,

Remember that you have your own light within you.

Visualize that small light growing larger and glowing from the center of your chest.

Feel its warmth as it spreads through your body with each breath you take,

Filling your entire being with a comforting warmth and glow.

Silently repeat,

Thank you inner light for guiding me.

Thank you winter for reminding me that I have light within.

Let's take a moment to reflect on the journey we've come to be at winter.

Take a moment and let's reflect on our past year that has brought us to this point.

Acknowledge the growth you've had,

The lessons you've learned and even thank the challenges that have shaped you in this year.

Feel gratitude for all these experiences and for the resilience and strength that has brought you to this moment.

Silently repeat to yourself,

Thank you for the path I've traveled and I honor all the wisdom I have gained in this year.

As we close out this meditation,

I ask you to take a deep breath,

A deep cleansing breath.

When you're ready,

Bring yourself back to awareness,

Back into the room.

Open your eyes slowly.

Feel the surface beneath you again.

Carry the sense of peace and gratitude of the winter solstice and the stillness it brings,

Knowing that the light is returning both in nature and within you.

May this meditation bring you warmth,

Clarity and a sense of peace as we welcome the return of the light and honor the quiet gifts that the winter solstice brings us all.
