Blessings are like gifts we offer to ourselves,
Each other,
And the world to mark occasions in the various stages of life.
As you listen,
I invite you to breathe in the words as if they're coming from deep inside your own heart and when there's a pause,
To take a slow,
Full breath,
Allowing them to sink in even more deeply.
This is an opportunity to take a break,
Even for a few moments,
And rest in the peace which lies deep within.
A wedding blessing.
When I saw you,
My breath stopped for a moment,
And I saw before me,
The broad expanse of our love unfolding,
Waves of earth rippling out from the epicenter of some great movement from deep within,
An unseen force so strong and wide,
So powerful,
Shaking me to the core,
Breaking highways of habit,
Forming new valleys and hills,
Shattering the glass house I had built in my mind.
No safety from the great love we would tend,
Planted in that spot.
And though I've oft forgotten to water it,
And have sometimes allowed weeds of past pains and sorrows to grow,
Still,
It has flourished under our mutual care,
And now it shelters us in its verdant shade,
Calls us to root ourselves in the dark soil at its feet,
So rich with all that feeds us,
To lay against its trunk,
Reveling in the songs of the sweet birds who decorate its fractal branches.
How could I do anything but vow to spend the rest of this tiny,
Perfect life,
Caring for all we have tended thus far?
I could assume this would be enough,
But the voice which emanates from inside the seed planted long ago says,
You know there is no end to this love.
When you think you've gone enough,
Go further.
When you think you've surrendered,
Go deeper.
Give all you have to me,
And I will offer you all you never knew you sought.
