Activating the Chakras Introduction (Part One Base to Heart)
This is an introductory Chakra Meditation that aims to connect us to the deeper energetic structures and charges that we accumulate and hold in the chakras. As such, it is not a visualisation practice but seeks to activate and clear the actual chakras themselves. This was recorded live on retreat. Advanced practice to follow in a couple of weeks.
Transcript
Let's do our meditation.
Take a few moments just relaxing and settling into your posture.
Feel your body as one resting within its own space.
Relax deeply into your heart.
Try to sense how the experience is already complete.
It is as it is.
There isn't anything to add to it.
It's just a question of turning up.
Bring your attention into your base chakra.
The base chakra is in the perineum,
In the pelvic floor.
Our ability to really connect to the physical structural aspect of our being.
To our body to feel really powerfully physically embodied.
It's a reflection of the functioning and openness of the base chakra.
Our willingness to inhabit this physical form.
Feel the base chakra.
Can you rest calmly there?
Or do you find your mind falls away when you try to concentrate?
Don't try and force anything,
Just calmly pay attention in this part of your body.
The deepest instinctual drives towards survival,
Rooted in the base chakra.
The most fundamental aspect of our sense of self is simply a physical human form.
How we relate to that.
How do you feel to be within your body?
Are you in conflict with it?
Don't put intention,
Don't visualize or imagine anything or try to create anything.
Bring awareness only,
Bare awareness.
Just be with the feeling and how it makes you feel within yourself.
If you cannot feel,
Then you simply notice that you cannot feel much.
That is enough,
Just rest there.
Don't get involved in too many stories.
Feel the whole of the area of your pelvis and your lower torso.
And your legs.
Above the base chakra,
Just above the sacrum,
Between the base of your spine and your pubic bone at the front.
It's the area of your sex chakra or sacral chakra.
The charge we carry around the ideas of our self as a man or as a woman.
Our sense of our self.
Not just our gender,
But our masculinity and femininity.
How we relate to our self as a man in relation to other men,
As a woman in relation to other women.
As a man in relationship to women,
As a woman in relationship to men.
The ideas of gender and our sense of sexuality.
These aspects of self express themselves through the sex chakra.
The charge we carry in this part of our body conditions this aspect of our idea of self and sense of self.
How does it feel in this part of your body?
Does it feel warm and nourished?
Does it feel heady and hot or cold?
Does it feel bright or dull?
Do you fall into ignorance when you try to feel here?
Does it feel blocked?
What is the quality and tone to the feeling and charge you carry in this area of your body?
Aspects of pride around gender.
Shame or arrogance.
Comparing ourselves to others is better,
Same or worse.
All reflected in this area of the body.
Your ability to accept yourself as you are as a man or as a woman without judgment.
It's reflected in this area of your body.
Feel the whole of the lower part of your body,
Your reproductive organs.
Base of your spine and sacrum.
The area of your sex chakra.
And feel the area of your belly,
Your lower digestive organs.
Small and large intestines.
Above them the stomach.
How do they feel?
This ability to digest.
Are you able to digest the experiences that you have?
Do they pass through you or do they stick?
Are you able to let go or do you cling?
Feel your belly.
How does it feel?
The upper body and the upper belly is the solar plexus chakra.
Reflecting the ideas of ourselves that we've created.
My idea of who I think I am,
The efforts I make to project that to the world.
I need to be seen and approved of how I feel when I'm not approved of or criticised.
All of this is reflected in the solar plexus.
The very root of our idea of self or the ego.
As we let go of these ideas of ourselves,
The insistence on imposing our idea upon the world.
Being understood by others.
Needing others to agree with us.
How we feel when they don't.
All of this is reflected in the solar plexus.
A lot of conflict that arises around my ideas.
Not being in agreement with others,
Needing agreement,
Needing affirmation and recognition.
Our inability to just accept self and others as we are.
This is the kind of conflict that accumulates as a charge in the solar plexus.
As we let this go,
The impedance in our system starts to release.
Allowing more awareness into the heart.
Try to get a sense of where you are gripping your life from your personal perspective.
Defining yourself and the world around you in accordance with your ideas of who you think you are.
And how you think the world should be and what you think it is.
See if you can sense the impedance or the conflict that that creates.
That stops you just embracing and allowing things to be what they are as they are.
I'm open and willing to release and let go.
The charge that I'm holding around the idea of myself.
That limits my capacity to accept life as it is.
Feel the area of your diaphragm.
The muscle that separates your belly from your chest.
Our very ability to breathe deeply is a reflection of what you are holding at the solar plexus and diaphragm.
Relax into it.
Try to let go.
I'm open and willing to release and let go.
The charge that I carry around the ideas of myself.
The degree to which they limit and condition.
The degree to which I'm open to life as it is.
Bring your attention up into your heart.
Your heart chakra in the center of your chest,
Your openness,
Your willingness to feel and be with things as they are.
Beyond the idea of yourself.
As you clear the solar plexus the heart begins to open.
As you trust life the heart begins to open.
In the heart itself,
In the lower part of the heart,
Not only where we register and learn the various experiences we have.
And all the ways that we react at various levels to everything that happens to us.
It is all registered at the heart.
Accumulated as habitual tendencies,
Conditioning tendencies.
The aggregate of all of this is what creates the idea and sense of me.
But behind it is that basic ground of pure awareness.
When I stop reacting to my experience,
My mind calms down and my heart is undisturbed.
It reveals that luminous ground to our being that is undisturbed.
The impedance that we feel within us is a reflection of the way that we have reacted to the things we have experienced.
That impedance conditions how we feel when we experience things in the moment,
Moment to moment.
As we gradually let go the charge we are carrying around our experiences in the past.
We release the impedance and awareness moves freely through us.
This is the way that gradually we open to our experiences as they are.
It is by reacting to how we feel when things happen moment to moment that we renew the charge that we are already carrying.
We can feel the charge within us.
The feeling tones and textures that arise,
The disturbances that are produced when we experience this and that.
We gradually let go that charge.
Let it pass away back into the stillness.
Slowly and in stages we let go what we are clinging to.
By being with the charge we are carrying around it.
By meeting it as it is.
Letting go our conflict with it.
Allowing it just to be.
Start to recognize that part of you that is open,
Unconditioned.
That is capable of embracing life as it is.
And that part of you that is limited by your past experiences and your identification with them.
Your true nature.
Your Buddha nature.
And the ideas of yourself or your ego that stands in the way.
Feel your whole body as one.
And rest calmly within yourself as you meditate.
Leave everything to come and go.
All friction and impedance within you.
All conflict is just clinging.
All that is clung to can be let go.
The truth of the mind is the truth of the mind.
Sabhe satta bhavantu sukhita tta.
May all beings be happy.
May all beings be happy.
May all beings be happy.
Meditation.
Stop.
