Christ Will Help You Walk On Water
Storms come for each of us when we are tossed in a boat at sea, buffeted by wind and waves. And in the gloom, Christ whispers ancient words, “Take courage. It is I. Don’t be afraid.” And Peter, the risk-taker, asks to walk on water. And Jesus says another of his great words, “Come.” Jesus, the merciful, did not ask Peter to do the impossible, but, at his request, gives him permission to try. We sometimes yearn to do things for which we know we don’t have the money, time, abundant gifts, or even the character. Never begin them before you’ve prayed, “Lord, tell me to do it.” But if he says, “Come,” start immediately. And Peter walks on water until notices the howling wind, is afraid, and begins to sink. Fear paralyzes, sinks, and destroys. But at his powerful prayer, “Lord, save me,” Jesus catches him. And the wind dies down, and Peter learns to keep his eyes on Jesus. And we learn: take risks, attempt great things, and when you begin to sink, immediately reach out for Jesus’ hand.
