Welcome to the Mindfulness Meditation Challenge, designed to help you build a meditation habit and seamlessly integrate mindfulness into your daily life. In this first track, we’ll explore the very foundation of mindfulness. Who pioneered modern mindfulness as we know it today? Is mindfulness simply about being in the present moment, or is it something more? I’ll break down the definition of mindfulness, piece by piece, sharing insights from both my own personal experience and my training as a certified mindfulness meditation teacher. If you find this talk helpful and want to dive deeper into the 3 core elements of mindfulness, you can explore more through my course, “Reflective Prompts For Mindfulness Journey: Deepen Your Meditation Practice.” Image Credit: By Leolo212 via Pixabay

Hello everyone.

Welcome to this Mindfulness Meditation Challenge.

John Kabat-Zinn,

He was the person who popularized mindfulness,

Who brought mindfulness that is rooted in Buddhism to the West and he was the person who secularized it so that everyone can practice.

Since this is about mindfulness meditation,

Let's be on the same page about what is mindfulness.

This is basically moment to moment non-judgmental awareness.

Meaning,

It is being fully aware of this present moment,

Which encompasses your thoughts,

Your emotions,

Your sensations and everything that is around you.

So your surroundings that you perceive through your five senses,

Seeing,

Hearing,

Touch,

Smell and taste.

We are observing all of these things that are occurring in the present moment.

So whatever is predominant,

We observe that or we have this awareness and that awareness can hold everything in the present moment.

And we are not just fully aware of the present moment,

But also we bring in certain qualities.

So the qualities are like,

We are not judging the experience.

So we are not saying that the sensation is bad.

The sensation is good.

Okay.

We are accepting it.

Yeah,

We are not resisting it because most of the times when things come up,

We are like,

No,

This is unpleasant.

We don't want that.

Right.

We are neither clinging to it or getting absorbed in it.

So if we have a thought,

Right,

We are not getting absorbed in it and we are not,

You know,

Going with the story that our mind is telling us.

So these,

As well as many other qualities,

So there are multiple qualities that we bring together and then that becomes mindfulness.

So there are,

I think,

Seven or nine qualities,

According to Jon Kabat-Zinn.

If you would like to know more about them,

The qualities itself,

Then you can check out my course.

So the course name is Reflective Prompts for Deepening Mindfulness Journey.

You can go to my profile and check it out.

So those are the qualities.

So being fully aware of what is going on in the present moment with non-judgment,

With acceptance,

And we are doing all of this with intention.

So we have this intention of being aware of all this.

Okay.

So this is mindfulness.

So this session has come to an end.

So thank you so much everyone for tuning in,

Sending my love and healing to all of you.
