So you are drinking your coffee in the morning,
You are waiting somewhere,
You have five minutes,
So you open your phone.
And there it is.
Someone you used to know announces something.
A new job,
A new house,
A new relationship.
A big change,
And you are happy for them,
At least a part of you is.
But another thought appears almost immediately.
What am I doing with my life?
And suddenly,
Their good news becomes a mirror.
And it's not because they did anything wrong.
It's not because you don't want them to succeed.
It's because seeing where someone else is reminds you of all the places where you think you should already be.
I agree.
But yesterday,
Before knowing their news,
Your life was exactly the same.
Nothing had changed.
Your progress was still your progress.
Your experiences were still your experiences.
But one comparison was enough to make everything feel smaller.
And most of us carry a timeline we never consciously created.
An invisible list of where we think we should be.
The age when we should have our career figured out.
The age when we should find the right person.
The age when we should stop struggling.
The age when we should finally feel like an adult who knows exactly what they are doing.
But one day,
You realize something.
Nobody ever handed you this timeline.
You just collected pieces of it along the way,
A comment someone made years ago,
Something a family valued,
The choices your friends made,
The version of success you saw around you,
The lives you watched online.
And slowly,
These things become a voice inside your head,
A voice that says,
You should be further by now.
But further towards what?
That's a question we often forget.
Further towards what?
Because being ahead only makes sense everyone is going to the same direction.
And let's be honest,
We are not.
Someone can have the career you wish you had and be struggling with something you already healed.
Someone can have the relationship you want and secretly envy your freedom.
Someone can have the lifestyle you admire and still wake up wondering if they made the right choices.
We compare the visible parts of other people's lives with the private parts of our own.
And that comparison will never be fair.
So think about how many things you have survived that nobody sees.
The decisions you had to make,
The moments when you had to rebuild,
The fears you faced quietly,
The chapters of your life that changed you but never became an enhancement.
Those things count but we rarely compare those.
We compare results and not the road that created them.
So Instead of asking yourself,
Why am I not there yet?
Maybe you can ask yourself,
Do I ever want to go there?
Because sometimes we are not actually disappointed with our life.
We are disappointed that our life doesn't match an image we never questioned.
So,
I invite you to take a moment and to think about one area where you feel behind.
You choose only one.
Maybe love,
Career,
Money,
Personal goals,
You got it?
And now I want you to ask yourself honestly,
What exactly do I believe should have happened by now?
And I want you to write the answer down.
And then ask yourself,
Who taught me that?
I don't want you to blame anyone here,
I just simply want you to understand,
Because some expectations are chosen,
Others are inherited,
And there is a huge difference between them.
I want this because it matters to me,
And I want this because I feel uncomfortable not having it.
Another question.
If I knew I would get there eventually,
Would I treat myself differently during this chapter?
Because often the most painful part is not where we are.
It's the constant belief that we should not be here.
We reject the season we are living because we are comparing it to the season someone else is experiencing.
And maybe this part of our life has a purpose too.
Maybe this is the period where you learn something important.
Maybe this is where you become clearer about what you want.
Maybe this is where you build something slowly that nobody sees yet.
You see,
Not every important chapter looks impressive from the outside.
Some chapters are quiet.
Some chapters are confusing.
Some chapters are simply about becoming ready for what comes next.
So if you feel behind,
Remember this.
You are measuring a life that is still happening.
You are judging the middle of a story because you don't know the ending yet.
And maybe years from now,
You will look back exact period.
The period you thought was proof that you were late and you will realize something important was happening.
You were not falling behind.
You were becoming someone who was finally ready for the life that actually belonged to you.
