This meditative talk gently reveals how the mind fills silence with fear and imagined threat, and how the body learns to associate doing with safety. Through soft, steady awareness, you’re invited to witness these thoughts as protective armor rather than truth. As the armor dissolves, the nervous system settles and the body remembers that stillness is safe.

Welcome.

This piece is called Stillness is Safe.

Notice what arises as you listen into the silence.

Notice the mind's response to silence is often fear.

Thoughts of things you have done wrong.

Thoughts of people you think don't like you.

Thoughts of worst case scenarios.

Thoughts of what the world is doing wrong.

Thoughts that make your toes curl and your stomach churn.

And none of it is true.

For many,

Silence and the absence of doing is unsafe.

Without worth,

Aligned and in the domain of the body,

Doing equals safety.

In your silence,

Let the light of your consciousness bear witness to the false nature of the mind,

Sending erroneous messages to the body.

As you observe from the vantage point of silence,

See fearful thoughts for what they are.

Armor around the heart.

Protection where none is needed.

Let the light of your awareness dissolve this armor.

As you settle into stillness and silence,

Soften.

Notice slowly a shift from a fearful thought to a gentle thought.

Notice how this shift happens slowly.

The armor dissolves slowly.

Let yourself become immersed in simple silence.

Let silence be the seat from which you watch the movement of your mind.

Notice the movement of the mind moving the energy of emotions.

Feeling the armor around the heart tightening as you imagine painful conversations that may or may not have happened.

Feeling the armor around the heart tightening when you envision scary scenes arising in your imagination.

Notice this experience.

Feel this experience.

Then,

With the power of your awareness,

Come back to silence.

Gently,

Very gently,

Teach your body to feel safe in silence.

Gently,

Very gently,

Teach your body to enjoy the experience of stillness.

Slowly,

Lovingly,

Teach your body to stop,

To settle.

Settle,

To allow.

Slowly,

Lovingly,

Begin to notice how much more settled and quiet and still the body can be when the armor around the heart softens.

Allowing wisdom to be revealed,

Showing you there is nothing to fear.

Wisdom to be revealed,

Showing you the mind does not tell the truth.

Wisdom is revealed and settles in your skin,

In your bones,

In your muscles,

In your organs,

In your blood,

In the very cells of your physical being.

Wisdom reveals.

Stillness is safe.

You are free.
