I had a really fascinating idea recently and of course I had to try it.
It's called having an opposite day.
The idea is simple.
For one whole day you become hyper aware of all the things you would normally do and instead you choose something completely different.
So I tried it.
I took different routes,
Chose things I wouldn't normally choose,
Went different places,
Listened to different music,
All the things.
And honestly,
I found the whole experience really incredible and fun.
I felt more awake and present as I moved through the day and I had a ton of unique experiences and chance encounters.
And it got me thinking about how much of our lives we spend doing the same thing in the same way day after day.
When you deliberately choose to do something different,
You're asking your brain to pay attention today.
And over time,
This even helps you to create and strengthen new neural pathways.
So I thought I'd pass this little experiment on to you.
Tomorrow,
When you wake up,
Have your own opposite day.
You could start by putting on an outfit you wouldn't normally wear,
Trying different accessories,
Ordering a completely different type of coffee or drink.
Taking a different route to work.
Walking somewhere new.
Calling someone you haven't spoken to in a while.
Listen to different music or choosing a new radio station.
Just notice what your normal usual patterns are and play with changing those.
Moment you choose something different,
You open yourself up to things you couldn't have planned.
Maybe that's the encounters,
The conversations,
A bit of serendipity or synchronicity,
Maybe even a little bit of magic.
So tomorrow,
Try something different.
Have an opposite day.
Follow your curiosity and see what's waiting for you when you take a different path.
