What type of story are you telling yourself about yourself? In this short message to start your day, we look at two of the possible stories we tell ourselves about our sense of self and our overall life. Sometimes our stories are uplifting, but sometimes they are limiting. But at any time, we have the power to redefine and rewrite the stories we tell ourselves. If you are constantly feeling challenged by life, this message might shift your perspective about the value of your hardships.

We each tell ourselves one of two stories in life.

Which one are you telling?

Hey there friends,

Welcome.

My name is Anthony V.

Lombardo and thanks for hitting play on this short audio track today.

My goal is to hopefully provide you with some wisdom and inspiration that you can take as you go about your day today and maybe give you a new way of looking at things.

In psychology,

There is something called the theory of narrative identity.

This refers to the internalized and evolving story we tell ourselves about our sense of self in order to make meaning out of our lives.

In other words,

Being a human being means being a storyteller,

Most specifically about our own identity and who we really are.

So I opened by saying we each tell ourselves one of two stories in life.

Which one are you telling?

So first,

There's story number one,

The doom and gloom story.

This is a story in which our sense of self becomes intertwined by our negative life events.

This is also known as blame stories.

When we tell these type of stories,

We speak about how tragic and difficult our life is and how we are unable to get beyond our struggles and challenges.

Essentially,

We define ourselves by our hardships and kind of build our identity around those hardships.

If you're a fan of the work of Michael Bernard Beckwith,

He refers to this as victim consciousness.

So hold on to story number one for a second,

The doom and gloom story.

Story number two is triumph through crisis story.

When we tell this story,

Or people who tell this story,

Believe their lives are meaningful directly due to the challenges they endured.

They tend to talk about their lives in terms of growth and hope.

These are stories of redemption.

In these stories,

Every bad situation and form of suffering was a means to teach them something new,

To become a stronger,

Wiser version of themselves.

Again,

If we go back to Michael Bernard Beckwith,

He would refer to this as manifestors consciousness.

Now I'm not saying living your life completely under story number two is easy.

When life gets hard and challenging and you're really running into serious problems,

It's difficult not to be consumed by them and to view your life only through that lens.

But what I am asking you to do,

And just for today as you go about your day,

Is to inquire which story are you telling yourself?

Which story would you say is the predominant story of your life?

Is it story number one,

The doom and gloom story?

Or is it story number two,

Triumph through crisis story?

Which story do you tend to tell others when you talk about your life?

Do you focus on how wronged you've been?

Or do you focus on what you learned and how it made you stronger?

Do you focus on how hard things are?

Or do you focus on how resilient and stronger you become and the lessons you learned?

Our ability to redefine and rewrite the stories we tell ourselves ultimately impacts the quality of our life and what we're able to experience and achieve and share with others.

It really is what determines whether we are a conscious creator slash manifester or a victim.

This doesn't mean your suffering and your pain and your challenges don't matter.

In fact,

They matter a lot.

They make you who you are and they are what gives your life meaning and helps you understand yourself and what this life really is all about.

So as you go about your day today,

Set the intention to tell better stories to yourself about yourself because you are the sole creator of your reality and your life experience and that power no one and nothing can take away from you.

Have a wonderful,

Blissful,

And highly conscious day.

Much love.

This quick talk was great. It gave me the opposite perspective and also a homework assignment to go through some of my past disasters and jot down what I've learned and how I've grown after dealing with them. Thank you.

Thank you. I do agree with you but found myself triggered as my childhood abuse was sold to me as normal and only recently have I allowed myself to acknowledge that it was not normal and I was a victim through no fault of my own. I have worked hard to accept the right to be a victim. I do not wish to dwell here but it has been vital to my healing to allow it and own it. I have lived a lifetime being denied so I guess there is a step in between where the story we tell must be truthful first so we can then move on? Thank you so much for your reply. This means a lot to me. I am seen, I am heard, I am loved. Gratitude is truly the way forward for me, it dispels the shock and anger, and I can breathe. This morning I am grateful to you and for you. Thank you for the work you do, you make a difference. πŸ₯°

On point with exactly the story of myself I need to focus on every day. Much like that legendary β€˜which dog are you feeding’ tale, your words remind listeners to focus on the positive.
