Travis MacPhee

Travis is an Interfaith spiritual care provider and chaplain, ordained through the Order of Universal Interfaith. He chose an Interfaith path because he believes our well-being depends on staying connected across difference without losing what makes us distinct. Whether described in spiritual or scientific language, Travis understands our lives as deeply interconnected and believes learning to live in alignment with that interconnection is essential for this time. His roots are shaped by Soto Zen practice at Green Gulch Farm and Tassajara Mountain Zen Center, as well as Unitarian Universalism and activism, including his formation at Starr King School for the Ministry and involvement with communities like JUUstice Washington. These communities continue to nourish his commitment to contemplative practice, compassionate presence, and collective care. He lives and works in Oakland, on the unceded territory of the Lisjan Ohlone people. Outside of work, Travis is most alive in simple moments— sharing tea with his wife and friends, reading something that widens his heart, dancing to good music, or sitting quietly among trees. Forests, especially, remind him of what he seeks to practice each day: distinct beings, rooted in their own integrity, sustained by connection.
