I'm not going to give you the sit in a comfortable position and close your eyes BS.
You are experiencing a deep anger,
As you should be.
So instead of fighting it or denying it is there.
We are going to practice being with it.
Your young self faced more than most people will face in an entire lifetime.
She has every right to be angry,
Irritable,
And downright pissed off.
The injustice,
The loneliness,
The fear.
She faced it all on her own.
And she wants,
No,
Needs you to hear her now.
That little girl did what she had to do to survive.
She took her role seriously.
Never make a fuss.
Stay quiet.
Do as you're told.
Other things in life always seemed bigger,
More important than what she had going on.
But that was her way to survive it.
And we can applaud her for that.
Genuinely,
When we think about how she was able to adapt to endure it all,
Wildly impressive.
Now we take a look at her needs.
She deserves to take up space.
To cry,
To yell,
To stomp her feet,
To clench her fists in fury.
When you feel ready.
Go to her.
Where is she?
Can you ask to sit with her?
Can you encourage her to express the anger that she was never allowed to show?
Can you tell her what she needs to hear?
Can you be the safe person that she needed all along?
Can you offer her validation and a true understanding that only you can provide?
Your current self is struggling with this pent-up rage.
Because there isn't a present target for it.
But if you try to suppress it,
You are putting that anger right back on her and forcing her to continue to try and face it alone.
See her.
Hear her.
Be with her.
All she needs.
Let her express herself and just be there.
You don't have to fix it or have all the right words.
Follow her lead.
And when you're ready.
You can come back to your current self.
Revisit this anytime you feel her nudging you and let her know that you're always available to her.
