Good morning.
Good evening.
Good afternoon.
Wherever you may be.
Whatever you may be doing.
My name is Tarul Mundawarana.
And today I want to talk about something that took me a long time to notice.
And that is how much of what I feel.
Was never actually mine to begin with.
I used to.
.
.
Walk into a room.
Light.
And leave it heavy.
Detention that wasn't mine.
The worry that wasn't mine,
The mood of the people around me,
The weight of the news.
The ache of someone I cared about,
I'd pick it all up.
And carry the heaviness home with me.
And I remember wondering.
.
.
Why I was so tired.
For so long.
So here's the premise for today.
Some of what you carry.
Is yours.
Some of what I carry is mine.
And some of it?
We simply picked up along the way.
We picked it up for someone else without ever actually agreeing to.
Creaking it up.
And the important thing is,
For me at least,
Is to know that I'm allowed to set it down.
This isn't about caring less,
It's actually the opposite.
When you stop carrying what isn't yours,
You finally have room.
To hold what is.
With both hands.
With a full heart.
The pond does not keep the storm,
It holds the sky for a moment.
Lets it pass and returns to itself.
What if we could do the same?
Hold what comes.
Let it move through and stay.
Yourself.
So before we drop in,
Let's take a few breaths together.
We're gonna breathe in through the nose.
And let it go with a long,
Slow sigh out the mouth.
So in through the nose.
And let it out with a long,
Slow sigh.
Fall.
Again into the nose.
You and sighed all the way out.
Allow your shoulders to drop.
One last time,
Breathe in everything you need.
And breathe out everything you doubt.
Close your eyes.
And let's begin.
Feel the weight.
Feel the weight of your body as it settles down.
Feel the weight of your body as it settles into whatever is holding you the chair.
The floor.
And let it take your weight.
Is nothing to hold right now.
Soften the space between your eyebrows,
Unclench the jaw,
Let the shoulders melt away from the ears and allow the belly to be soft.
And silently to yourself.
I am here.
I am now.
I am present.
Now take yourself to a forest.
One that you know,
One that you've seen,
One that you've been to.
Picture yourself there.
Standing at the edge.
Behind you,
The road,
The track,
The field.
That got you there.
To your front.
Path opens before you winding and leading in between the trees.
Notice.
Notice the light.
Falling through the leaves.
Gold.
Gentle.
Pooling as they kiss the earth.
Feel the ground beneath your feet.
Soft as moss.
Fallen leaves.
The air clean.
The scent of pine.
After rain.
And so you begin to walk.
And with every step the forest grows quieter.
The path.
Opens into a clearing.
To a magnificent open space and there at the center of the clearing.
A still pond.
I was like a coin.
Dropped in the middle of a field.
Silva.
If you move your head,
You see the sun's reflection glint off of it.
Holds the whole sky.
On its surface.
You walk to the edge of the water.
Earth as it meets the water is warm here.
You feel that familiar feeling of safety.
Being held.
Being supported.
And before we look,
Just place your attention.
On the soles of your feet.
Feel them against the ground.
Connecting.
Feel the ground rising up.
To meet you.
Connect.
This.
Is your anchor.
And as long as your attention rests here,
You can feel.
Anything.
As long as your attention rests here,
You can feel anything without being swept away by it.
You can be with it.
And still be you.
Now gently,
Let yourself notice what.
You've been carrying.
Whatever feeling has been sitting with you today.
The heaviness,
The worry.
Tightness you can't quite name.
Don't try to fix it.
You don't need to change it.
Or understand it all even better.
Push it and make it go away.
Here there is no agenda,
Just.
.
.
Let it be felt.
And physically notice where it lives.
In your body.
Is it in your chest?
Is it in your stomach?
Is it in your throat?
Is it in your shoulders?
Connect there by placing a hand.
Where you feel it the most.
And as you do that,
Breathe into it,
Not to push it away.
Just.
.
.
Now.
With your hands resting there,
Ask the feeling softly.
Without requiring.
An answer.
Ask the feeling.
Is this mine?
Don't search for an answer.
Let it rise.
Like yeast naturally on its own.
The body knows long before the mind does.
Some of what's here is yours.
And if it is,
You can hold it.
Tenderly.
The way you'd hold something precious.
Fragile.
A warm fresh egg.
It belongs to you and it is allowed to be here.
With some.
Of what's here.
Is.
And never was yours.
Along the way you picked it up.
In a room,
In a conversation,
On a call.
On a date.
On a sports field.
In a scroll through the news and the silence.
Of someone you love.
And as you think of that,
Perhaps a face comes to you now.
Whose was this?
See yourself.
In that clearing,
By that body of water.
Gathering up that feeling.
Visualize yourself.
Picking up.
That feeling that you've carried that was never yours.
And gently setting it.
Onto the surface of the water.
See it as a ball.
See it as a box.
However you visualize that feeling.
Place it now on the surface.
And watch it.
Sit there for a moment.
And then watch that gentle natural current.
Begin to carry it.
Slowly.
Across the pond.
And away from you.
And if there is someone.
It belongs to.
You can let it return to them on the other side of the pond,
Not with resentment.
But with love.
And silently say or simply listen.
This was never mine to carry.
I give it back to you.
With love.
I trust you to carry.
Even when we set something down.
The body remembers.
The body remembers the shape.
Of having carried it.
So let's release it.
Let's release it from the body as well.
And all of this is optional.
In your own time,
There's no right,
There's no wrong,
Only what feels good.
To let go of.
And we'll start with Asai,
A real one.
So breathe in.
And let it out with the sound.
And again,
But this time even louder if you like.
Let your body completely empty.
And if it feels right now,
Just let your hands begin to shake.
Just your hands.
Your fingers,
Your wrists.
Loosely.
Gently.
The way an animal shakes off a fright.
And let that shake travel up into the arms.
Through your elbow.
And your biceps.
Find it in the shoulders and shake off.
What you sit down on the pond.
You and let it slow.
Roll your shoulders now.
Once.
Twice.
Let the jaw go loose.
And if a yawn wants to come.
.
.
Oof,
Did it.
A yawn is the body.
Letting go.
And if another one follows,
Welcome it too.
And if tears have come,
That day.
There's nothing to hold back here.
Tears are just the body.
Returning to itself.
Now.
Be still.
Notice how the body feels.
Notice how the body feels.
A little lighter.
A little more your own.
So let's finish here.
Just close it out with a few words,
Silently repeat them to yourself or simply let them move through you as I say them.
I hold only what is mine.
My heart.
Is my own.
I am clear.
I am light.
I am free.
What was never mine,
I set down.
With love.
I am sovereign.
In my own body.
And let those settle.
And again,
One more time,
I hold only what is mine.
My heart is my own.
I am clear.
I am light.
I am free.
Whatever was never mine,
I sat down with love.
I am sovereign.
In my own body.
And as we close now,
Look.
Stiller than before.
Clearer.
The sky resting on its surface once again.
And look at yourself.
Lighter.
Room here.
More space,
Carrying only what is yours.
And carrying it well.
With gratitude,
With love,
With completeness.
And when you're ready.
.
.
Stand up from the water's edge.
Turn around and begin to walk back.
To the path at the end of the forest.
Leaving the clearing,
Leaving the pond,
Entering the same forest and yet.
.
.
That light through the trees,
Through the leaves,
Seems brighter now.
The air fresher.
Because something you were carrying.
Is no longer with you.
And with that,
Take one final deep breath in.
And an exhale.
And begin to bring your awareness back to the room.
Feel the weight of your body again.
The surface beneath you.
Temperature of the air,
The sounds that had gone around you.
Roll your shoulders,
Roll your neck,
Bring warmth to your legs.
A chest.
And whenever you're ready.
There's no rush at all.
Let your eyes gently open.
Thank you.
Thank you for being here,
Notice as you go how it feels to carry only what is yours You can return to this water anytime you need.
The question is always waiting for you.
Is this mine?
And take this feeling with you.
You are seeing.
You are whole.
You are complete.
You are enough.
Until the next time.
Thank you.
