The story about the gift that was refused.
One day,
As the monk walked through a village,
A young man began shouting at him.
You're a fraud.
You have no wisdom.
You have nothing to teach anyone.
The monk stopped and smiled.
This only angered the man more.
I insult you and you smile.
Why don't you say something?
The monk calmly asked.
If you offer someone a gift.
And they refuse it.
Who does the gift belong to?
The young man snapped.
To the one who brought it.
The monk nodded and said,
Then the same is true of anger.
If you bring it to me and I do not accept it,
It remains with you.
Your anger hurts only the one who carries it.
