Welcome,
And thank you for joining me today.
As we step into a new year,
It's natural to carry hopes,
Plans and goals.
But sometimes,
Expectations,
Whether of ourselves,
Others or life,
Can feel heavy.
This meditation is an invitation to let go of those expectations.
To create space for the unknown,
And to embrace the possibilities of the present moment.
Find a comfortable position,
Either sitting or lying down.
Allow your hands to rest gently in your lap,
Or at your sides.
Close your eyes,
And take a deep breath in,
And out.
Let's begin.
Begin by connecting with your breath.
Inhale deeply through your nose,
Filling your lungs completely.
Exhale slowly through your mouth.
Feel your body begin to relax.
Let your breath find its natural rhythm,
Flowing in and out like gentle waves.
With each inhale,
Invite a sense of calm.
With each exhale,
Let go of tension,
Stress,
Or anything you don't need right now.
Notice the way your body feels in this moment.
If you notice any areas of tightness,
Breathe into them gently,
Allowing them to soften.
Bring to mind an expectation you may be holding onto.
Perhaps it's a goal you feel you must achieve.
Perhaps it's how you think this year should unfold.
Or maybe it's how you feel others should act,
Or how you should be.
As you hold this expectation in your mind,
Ask yourself gently,
Is this serving me?
What might it feel like to let this go?
Visualize this expectation as a balloon in your hands.
Feel its weight,
And notice how tightly you may be grouping it.
Now,
Imagine opening your hands and releasing the balloon.
Watch it float away,
Higher and higher,
Until it disappears into the sky.
As it leaves,
Feel the lightness in your body.
Let go of the need for control,
The pressure to predict,
Or the fear of uncertainty.
Trust that what is meant for you will come in its own time.
With each breath,
Invite a sense of openness and possibility.
Repeat silently to yourself,
I release what no longer serves me.
I am open to the flow of life.
I trust that the universe has a plan for me.
I find comfort in the fact that there is a season for everything.
And that the right thing will happen at the right time,
In perfect timing.
No matter what happens this year,
I am safe.
I am secure.
I am loved.
Feel a sense of freedom growing within you.
A spaciousness that allows you to move forward with ease and grace.
As we prepare to end this meditation,
Take a moment to express gratitude.
Gratitude for your breath,
For your life.
For this moment.
And for your courage to release what you no longer need.
Take one final breath in.
And sigh it out through your mouth.
When you're ready,
Gently wiggle your fingers and toes.
Bringing movement back to your body.
Open your eyes slowly.
Returning to the space around you.
Carry this sense of lightness and trust.
With you into your day,
And into the year ahead.
