This poem is titled Feeding Upon the Light of Stars.
It comes from the book Thousands of Years of Prayers,
Poems by Julie Dama,
Collection of poems written as letters to the river Ganga in India.
Feeding Upon the Light of Stars.
Dear Ganga,
Cartographers chart your length and width,
Measuring through the years your ever-changing self.
And yet,
Who can measure the mysticism of your flow,
The ways you move,
Bursts of energy flowing in the mind or heart of someone who thinks of you.
A voltage born of years of deep reflection,
Your waters feeding upon the light of the stars,
The luminous moon,
The devotion of the sun,
The iridescence of the wings of large dragonflies as they pass.
