This guided meditation is designed for those who have struggled with eating disorders or are on the path to recovery,
Led by me,
Tanya Phillips,
A meditation guide who has personally recovered from an eating disorder.
This practice offers a compassionate space for healing and self-acceptance.
Through mindful breathing,
Body awareness,
And gentle visualization,
You will explore the process of releasing judgment,
Embracing nourishment,
And connecting with a supportive community of others who,
Like you,
Are on their journey toward recovery.
This meditation encourages you to reconnect with your body,
Allowing food to restore your strength and reclaim your sense of self-worth.
I invite you to begin by sitting at a table or in a peaceful place where you enjoy your meals.
This meditation offers a moment of comfort in the present,
A space to proceed with care and always honor your needs.
I want you to know you are enough and your journey is one of healing and growth.
Please note,
I am not a licensed professional.
This meditation is a supportive tool and it is always important to seek professional guidance where needed.
Let's begin.
Find a comfortable place,
Perhaps at your kitchen table or counter.
This may have been a challenging space for you in the past,
But it is now part of your healing journey.
Settle into your seat,
Letting your hands rest in front of you,
Palms down on the surface.
Take a deep breath in,
And as you exhale,
Allow yourself to relax just a little more.
Continue with deep,
Slow breaths in through your nose,
Holding for a moment,
And then out through your mouth.
If you feel comfortable,
Gently close your eyes or soften your gaze.
I know this may be scary,
But I am right here with you.
Begin to scan your body from head to toe,
Acknowledging any sensations without judgment.
Bring your awareness to your feet,
Feeling how they ground you.
Move your focus to your legs,
And then to your stomach.
Notice how your body is supported by the chair and surface beneath you.
If you sense tension,
Especially in your shoulders or other areas,
Breathe deeply into those spaces,
And let the tension soften with each exhale.
Now take a moment to offer gratitude to your body,
Even the parts you may struggle to accept.
Acknowledge them for carrying you through each day.
Recite this affirmation to yourself.
Thank you,
Body,
For all that you do to carry me through life.
Now imagine you are not alone at this table.
Visualize yourself surrounded by others who understand.
People who have walked a similar path.
They too have struggled,
Yet they are here,
Supporting you in a shared journey.
This is a community that welcomes and accepts you just as you are.
Take a deep breath in,
And then let it out.
Know that in this moment,
You are not alone.
You are held by the collective experience of others on the same path.
As you sit,
Notice if any critical or negative thoughts arise.
It could be about your body,
Food,
Or even the people around you.
These thoughts may surface,
But they do not defy you.
You are surrounded by compassion for those who also understand what it's like to struggle.
We are here,
Supporting one another.
Now imagine there is food placed in front of you,
Or perhaps it's already there.
See the food as a source of nourishment,
Just as you would see the steam rising from a warm mill,
Slowly dissipating as the air cools.
Let any negative thoughts float away just as that steam disappears.
Know that you are not your thoughts,
And the emotions that accompany them do not defy you.
This food in front of you nourishes your body.
This is your healing,
Your strength.
Imagine the energy from this food moving through your body,
Restoring and revitalizing it.
Feel the presence of your supportive community as they too share in this nourishment.
You are all connected,
Cared for,
And supported.
In your mind,
Take a bite of this meal.
Feel its texture,
Savor its flavor.
Is it warm or cold?
Sweet or savory?
Notice how it feels.
This food is giving back what your eating disorder once took away.
It is restoring your strength.
As you continue to take in this nourishment,
Either silently or out loud,
Repeat these affirmations.
I am worthy of love and care.
I am learning to listen to my body,
Not my eating disorder.
I release the shame and embrace the journey of recovery.
I trust this food is nourishing me and healing me.
I am not alone in my recovery.
I am.
Allow the truth of these words settle into your heart.
You are deserving of nourishment,
Both from the food and from the support around you.
As we near the close of this meditation,
Take a deep breath in.
Slowly let it out.
Gently bringing yourself back to the present moment.
The table or space where you are seated.
Feel your body resting comfortably.
And carry with you the love,
Acceptance,
And healing that you've cultivated here.
Before you open your eyes,
Remind yourself you are healing and you are enough.
When you're ready,
Slowly open your eyes.
Take a moment to sit with this feeling,
Knowing you can return to this practice whenever you need it.
Remember,
You are not alone.
