Begin by taking a few deep breaths.
Then settle into a comfortable position.
Let your eyes be closed.
Or have a gentle.
.
.
Downward facing gaze.
As you breathe.
Feel the rise and fall of your chest.
When your chest is rising,
Know it is rising.
When it is falling,
Know it is falling.
Now let the rise and fall of your chest Fade into the background.
As you bring your attention to your feet.
Ask yourself,
How do my feet feel?
Are they sore?
Relaxed?
In pain.
Or neutral.
Take a moment to explore your feet from the inside out.
Be curious with your investigation.
What did you learn?
About your feet.
Was there any new information for you here?
Continue this investigation of your body.
As you move your attention up the legs.
To the ankle,
Shin,
And calf area.
What's happening here?
Are your muscles tight or relaxed?
Investigate with your inner eye.
After noting the sensations of the lower leg.
Bring the attention up yet again.
To the area of the upper leg.
The knees,
Thighs,
And hips.
Sensing your body from the inside out.
What do these areas feel like?
Is there any pain or discomfort?
Do these areas feel positive,
Negative,
Or neutral?
Is there one area that needs more attention or pulls your focus more than others?
Be curious with your investigation.
Where is your mind?
Are you still scanning the lower body?
Are you writing your grocery list for next week,
Maybe?
If so,
Be gentle with yourself.
Distractions are a natural part of meditation.
No distracted or planning.
And gently refocus your attention on the body scan.
Bring your focus now to the abdomen.
Take a moment to check in with your belly.
Your visceral organs.
And your low back.
See what you can note.
About this area.
And how it feels.
Can you sense your hara?
Does it feel filled with life energy?
Or depleted.
Can you feel your body processing your morning or midday meal?
Be curious with your investigation.
Let the abdomen fade in your mind's eye.
And bring focus to your chest.
Upper back,
Heart.
And lungs.
What do you sense here?
Is there pain or comfort?
Is there emotional heaviness or tightness from stress?
Are you relaxed and at peace?
Is your heart open and loving?
Or closed and in need.
Take note of what you find.
Bring your attention now to your shoulders,
Arms,
And hands.
These are your tools.
You use them every day.
Without much thought.
How do they feel today?
Give them your undivided attention.
Allow your attention.
To move gently once again.
This time,
Focus on your neck,
Head,
And face.
Are you holding tension in your jaw?
Is your throat sore?
From holding in what you want to say.
Be curious about your body.
What does your scalp feel like today?
Finally.
.
.
Let's bring the attention to the mind itself.
The seat of observation.
How is your mind today?
Is it thinking a million things at once?
Is it focused on the sounds in the room?
Or worried about what's happening at home.
Is it singly focused on your body scan?
Does it feel healthy?
What state?
Is your mind in today?
Now that you have taken note of each part of your body separately,
Let's zoom out.
And view the body as a whole.
In your mind's eye,
Bring your awareness across the full expanse of your body.
Take note on how these areas are like pinpoints on a map.
Available for you to return at any time.
How does taking in?
The whole body's sensations at once feel.
Is it comfortable?
Is it overwhelming?
Take just another moment to feel the body as a whole.
Now gently allow your investigation to rest.
Release the control in your thoughts.
Allowing them to wander once again.
Note how this release feels.
Begin to bring movement into your fingers and toes.
Start to feel the floor or chair against your body,
The temperature of the room on your skin.
Take a few deep breaths as you rouse your body from meditation into the room.
And when you're ready.
Allow your eyes to open.
