You walk into rooms.
Meetings,
Conversations.
Your home at the end of the day.
The space where your partner is.
Where your kids are.
And you bring something with you every time,
Whether you're aware of it or not.
Your state.
Your energy.
The mood that's been running in the background all day.
Other people feel it before you've said a word.
Today we're going to look at what you're actually bringing and give you a choice about it.
Let's settle in first.
Feet on the floor,
Hands resting somewhere easy.
Slow breath in through the nose,
Let it drop all the way into your belly.
And out.
Long and complete.
Feel your body right now,
The actual state of it,
Not what you wish it was,
What it actually is.
One more in slowly.
The Now.
Good.
Stay here for a moment.
This is the baseline we're working from.
Let's take an honest read of where you are right now.
What's your energy like actually?
Know what you're projecting.
What's underneath it.
Are you carrying stress from earlier today?
Something unresolved?
A conversation that left a residue.
Or maybe subtler.
Impatience,
Flatness.
If you had to describe your current state in one word,
Not the word you'd use publicly,
The honest one,
What would it be?
Stay with that.
And where does that state live in your body right now?
Just notice.
Don't fix it yet.
Here's what most men never stop to consider.
The state you're in colors everything you do.
When you're carrying stress and you walk into a conversation.
You're not just having that conversation,
You're having it through the filter of everything you're holding.
People around you feel that.
Partners,
Children,
Colleagues.
They adjust to it,
They walk around it.
Sometimes they absorb it.
That's not a character flaw,
It's just what happens when awareness is missing.
Think about the last time your state,
Stress,
Irritability,
Distraction affected someone around you without you meaning it to.
What was happening for you underneath that?
Take your time.
And what would have been different if you'd caught it?
If you'd known what you were bringing into that room before you walked in.
You can't always change what you're carrying.
Some days are hard.
Some states are real and need to stay.
But awareness changes what you do with it.
When you know what you're bringing.
You can name it.
You can say to the people you care about,
I'm carrying something today.
It's not about you.
That's not weakness,
That's emotional maturity.
And on the days when you have a choice,
You can take 5 minutes before you walk into a room.
Do what we just did here and decide what you want to bring with you instead.
That changes the room before you've said a word.
Than out all the way.
Feel the ground beneath you,
Steady,
Present.
Before you walk into the next room today,
Take one breath.
Ask yourself what you're bringing and choose.
That's the whole practice.
Take your time coming back.
Good work.
