Hello and welcome.
This is a short guided meditation in which we will be seeing what it feels like to let go of the need to control.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to let life unfold on its own without needing to influence it or to control every little thing?
What if by doing this we learn to trust that life will always take care of itself?
That with or without us,
Life is constantly unfolding.
So when you're ready,
Find a comfortable position,
Sitting or lying down,
Whatever feels most natural,
And let your hands rest and your body settle.
Gently close your eyes or soften your gaze if you prefer.
Take a deep breath in and as you breathe out,
Allow your body to soften.
Once more,
Breathe in and let go.
Feel the weight of your body resting on the surface beneath you.
There's nothing to fix right now,
No one to help,
No decisions to make,
There's just this moment.
Now bring your attention to the rhythm of your breath.
Wherever you feel it's strongest,
Notice how it comes and goes by itself without needing you to control it.
And for the next few moments,
Simply rest here,
Watching the breath,
Feeling the body,
Allowing yourself to settle.
Now I'd like you to notice if there's anything you feel responsible for right now.
Maybe a person you're worried about,
A situation you feel you need to manage.
Whatever it may be,
Just bring it to mind for a moment,
Not to judge it,
Not to fix it,
Just to see it clearly.
Notice the thoughts that come with this feeling.
The mind might say,
I need to make sure they're okay,
I don't want them to feel bad,
I have to find a way to fix this.
Just watch these thoughts,
Like clouds drifting through the sky,
You may see how they create a sense of tension,
A feeling that you must act,
That you must protect,
That you must do something.
But what if,
For just this moment,
You didn't have to do anything?
Not because you don't care,
Not because it doesn't matter,
But because life is already unfolding.
Take another deep breath in,
And as you exhale,
Imagine softening around this need to control.
What happens if you let go,
Just a little bit?
Not forcing yourself to,
Not making it into a task.
In the same way you'd release something you were holding too tightly,
It requires a lot of effort to hold onto it,
But no effort to let go.
What if things didn't need your control,
To be okay?
What if people could have their experiences,
Their feelings,
Their challenges,
And that was okay?
Can you allow life to move without needing to hold it in place?
Now let's look again at thought.
A thought appears,
I need to help,
I need to fix this.
Where does the thought come from?
Did you ask for it,
Or did it just arise all by itself?
Thoughts come and go,
Like waves in the ocean.
They create the feeling of urgency,
The sense of responsibility,
But thoughts are not facts.
They are simply movements of the mind,
And like the breath,
They happen without needing to be controlled.
So for the next few moments,
Just rest.
Rest in knowing that you don't have to fix anything right now.
Let life move.
Let thought come and go.
Observe,
Don't react.
There's nothing to control.
There's just this moment,
Just being.
As you go about the rest of your day,
I'd like to encourage you to practice letting go.
Practice giving in to the moment,
Whatever it may bring.
See that life takes care of itself,
And trust that if something needs to be done,
Then you will know exactly what to do when the moment is right.
And if you don't know,
Then that's the time to let go.
