Welcome.
I'm Laura Patrick,
Licensed specialist,
Clinical social worker.
Find a comfortable position and allow your body to settle.
Take a slow breath in through your nose.
And gently breathe out.
Again,
Breathe in slowly.
And release.
Today we're creating a little space between you and self-blame.
Think of something you've been carrying.
The thought that you should have known better.
10 more.
Reacted differently,
Or somehow prevented what happened.
You don't need to examine the whole story,
Just notice the weight of it.
Quietly say,
I made decisions with the knowledge,
Resources,
And capacity I had at the time.
Imagine placing the blame you've been carrying into your open hands.
Notice its heaviness.
Maybe you've carried it for months,
Maybe years.
As you breathe out,
Imagine loosening your grip.
You do not have to punish yourself forever because you wish something had been different.
Say quietly.
I can take responsibility for what belongs to me.
Without taking responsibility for everything.
I can learn without condemning myself.
I can regret something without hating myself.
I can wish I had known then what I know now,
And I can allow myself to move forward.
Imagine setting down just one small piece of that burden.
You don't have to release everything today,
Just one piece.
Feel your shoulders soften.
Unclench your jaw.
Relax your hands.
You are allowed to grow beyond the person you were in that moment.
You are allowed to learn.
You are allowed to forgive yourself.
Take one final deep breath in.
And slowly breathe out.
Carry this thought with you.
I can acknowledge the past without living inside of it.
