Welcome,
I'm Laura Patrick,
Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker.
Find a comfortable position and allow your body to settle.
Take a slow breath in through your nose.
And gently breathe out.
Again,
Breathe in slowly.
And relief.
There are moments in life we replay because we believe we should have handled them differently.
Picture yourself at the time of something you now blame yourself for.
Don't focus on what happened.
Focus on you.
What did you know?
What didn't you know yet?
What were you afraid of?
What were you trying to manage?
Look at that earlier version of yourself through the eyes you have today.
Perhaps that person was overwhelmed,
Afraid,
Exhausted,
Or simply doing what seemed right at the time.
Quietly stay.
You didn't have everything I know now.
You couldn't see the future.
You are human.
You don't have to excuse something in order to understand it.
Understanding and accountability can exist together.
Imagine sitting beside that earlier version of yourself.
Instead of criticizing them.
Stay.
I understand more now.
I've learned.
I've changed.
And I don't need to keep hurting you to prove that I've learned.
Self-punishment cannot change yesterday.
But compassion can change what you carry into tomorrow.
I forgive myself for not knowing what I had not learned yet.
I forgive myself for being human.
And I choose growth over punishment.
Take one final breath.
And remember.
.
.
You don't have to rewrite the past to treat yourself kindly in the present.
