Welcome to Somatic Signal.
I'm Jeremy,
A neurophysiologist.
If your heart rate is pounding before a high-stakes meeting,
Presentation,
Or difficult conversation,
Do not try to talk yourself out of it.
Performance anxiety is an autonomic shift.
In under four minutes,
We can use physical hardware overrides to stabilize your heart rate.
And ground your voice so you enter the room in more control.
Let's prepare.
There is no correct posture here.
Whether you're seated or standing.
See that your feet are planted firmly on the floor.
And seal the ground.
High pressure situations make us brace our jaw and our throat,
Creating a thin,
Shaky voice.
See if you can drop your jaw slightly open.
Move it gently side to side.
And press your tongue firmly against the floor of your mouth for about three seconds.
And then completely relax it.
Restoring space here in the vocal track.
And releasing trigeminal nerve tension,
Sending an immediate safety signal to your brainstem.
Grounding your vocal tone.
Now we'll look at the breath.
We can look at the pacing and autonomic control.
We look to stability in a square breath pacing.
A 4x4.
Inhale through your nose for a count of four.
Hold for a count of four.
Exhale through your nose or pursed lips for four.
And then hold empty for four.
Now we can try it together at your pace and count.
Inhale.
When you're ready,
Hold.
When you're ready,
Exhale.
And when you're ready,
Hold.
You can keep this breath or you can go back to a natural breath and feel your heart rate level out.
See if you can sense.
That maybe the system isn't bracing for threat.
And you are primed.
Or your task.
Checking in to see that this baseline is something that you can carry with you into your meeting,
Into your conversation.
And sensing that your system is grounded.
