Hello,
I'm Jackie.
Thank you for joining me for this bedtime meditation.
I'm going to take you to meet a friend of mine,
Blue Whale.
She takes me on many exciting adventures and teaches me lots of things.
Today,
She's going to guide you on an adventure too.
Blue Whale is huge,
Longer than the longest jumbo jet airplane,
But she's gentle,
Loving and kind,
And she's so looking forward to meeting you.
Let's get ready for our adventure.
Blue Whale lives in the dream time,
So we'll start by getting our bodies relaxed to help us cross over into her world.
We're going to take a deep breath then let it out with a sigh,
Like this.
Breathe in.
Let's do it together.
In.
We'll do two more.
This time,
Feel your shoulders drop as you breathe out.
Breathe in.
Breathe in.
Wonderful.
Now,
Picture yourself on a beach,
Looking out over a calm sea.
Wriggle your toes in the soft,
Warm sand.
As you gaze out to sea,
You spot a large rock with a seagull sitting on it.
Suddenly,
The rock moves and the seagull flies off with a squawk of surprise.
The rock rises up out of the water and you realise that it's not a rock at all.
It's Blue Whale.
She spots you on the beach,
Raises her massive tail out of the water and beckons you to come and join her in the beautiful,
Calm,
Blue sea.
Don't worry if you're not a good swimmer or even that you can't swim at all.
In the dream time,
Everything is possible.
You wade slowly into the warm,
Clear water.
It reaches your chest.
Then you start to swim.
Slow,
Graceful strokes until you reach your new friend.
Blue Whale is so delighted to see you that she blows a water spout high into the air.
She invites you to journey with her and you scramble up onto her huge body.
Where will you sit as you travel with Blue Whale?
On her back?
Her head?
On a fin?
Right up on her tail?
Or even snuggled in her blowhole?
Whichever you choose,
She'll keep you safe and secure.
Get yourself all settled for your adventure is about to begin.
You might start feeling sleepy while on your journey or even fall asleep.
Don't worry,
Blue Whale will make sure that you get home safely and that you wake up rested in your own bed in the morning.
Are you ready?
This is a very special journey Blue Whale has invited you on.
It's one she does every evening.
As the sun is going down and daytime turns to night,
She travels the world singing it to sleep.
The sun is getting lower in the sky.
Watch it now as it disappears over the horizon.
Fluffy clouds turn from white to the most amazing shades of orange,
Red and pink.
It's the most beautiful sunset you've ever seen.
As it fades and the sky starts to grow dim,
Take some deep,
Slow breaths with Blue Whale as she prepares to journey.
Feel her breathing and breathe with her in and out.
Out.
It's time to go.
The world is ready to sleep.
Slowly,
Blue Whale slips beneath the surface of the ocean,
Carrying you with her down into the warm,
Still water.
She starts to sing.
The sweetest,
Most enchanting song you've ever heard.
It carries across the ocean.
You start noticing sea creatures around you.
Brightly coloured fish are everywhere.
As they hear Blue Whale's song,
They stop darting around and head slowly home to the nearby forest of gently waving seaweed,
Where they'll rest safely for the night.
Good night,
Fish.
Sleep well.
Beneath you on the seabed,
Scuttling crabs slow,
Yawn,
Stretch and crawl underneath nearby rocks.
Can you see their eyes peeping out?
Blue Whale sings her song and the crab's eyelids start to get heavy until they can't keep their eyes open a moment longer and they slowly drift off to sleep.
Good night,
Crabs.
Rest well.
An octopus swims by.
He too hears Blue Whale's lullaby.
His body relaxes and he sinks down to the ocean floor.
Lazily wriggling his arms,
He buries himself in the soft sand,
His comfy bed for the night.
His eyes close and he dozes off into happy dreams.
Good night,
Octopus.
Sweet dreams.
What other sea creatures can you see settling down to rest,
Finding their safe place,
Relaxing,
Breathing deeply,
Closing their eyes and falling asleep to Blue Whale's soothing song?
As you look and watch,
Breathe and relax with them,
Breathing slowly in and out,
In and out.
Soon,
The ocean becomes still and silent,
Except for Blue Whale's song.
But her job isn't done,
For much of the earth is still awake.
She will journey on around the world,
Singing out across lands far and wide until all creatures and people are at rest.
Blue Whale has loved you journeying with her,
But she knows that you too need to rest.
She carries you safely on her back to an island of palm trees,
Where gentle waves caress the sandy shore.
In and out,
The little waves gently sweep,
Like the soothing breath of the ocean,
Flowing in and out.
On the island is a gorgeous green turtle.
She's waiting for you.
You follow her as she crawls slowly up the beach.
Finding the perfect spot,
She carefully digs out a hollow in sand that is still warm from the heat of the sun,
Scooping this way and that with long,
Slow,
Powerful sweeps of her fins.
This will be the perfect place for you to rest.
All the while,
Blue Whale continues to sing,
Her sweet song.
As Turtle completes her task,
She looks up to the stars that are beginning to twinkle in the night sky.
From the heavens,
A white dove appears.
She hovers over the hollow in the sand.
A single white feather descends.
Watch it slowly float down.
Hovering now and then in the warm,
Still air.
As it lands in the sandy hollow,
Another feather descends,
Slowly,
Gently.
And another,
And another,
Like feathery snow,
Falling and filling the hollow with a soft downy blanket of feathers.
Having given her gift,
Dove disappears back into the heavens.
All the while,
Blue Whale continues to sing her beautiful song.
You're feeling sleepy now.
This cozy bed is so inviting that you can't resist snuggling down into it,
Sinking into the soft,
Warm feathers.
Once Blue Whale sees that you're comfortable and safe in Turtle's care,
She continues her journey.
But her song remains and will soothe you all night long.
You cuddle down in the feathers and feel your body become deeply relaxed.
Your eyes are relaxed.
Your cheeks are.
Your neck is.
Your shoulders are.
Your arms are.
Right down to your fingertips.
Your chest is.
Your tummy is relaxed.
Your hips are relaxed.
Move around a little if you need to,
To get even more snuggly and comfortable.
Your ankles are.
Your feet are relaxed.
Right down to your toes.
Blue Whale's song drifts through your ears.
Gentle,
Loving,
Soft as starlight.
Sleep now.
Rest deeply.
Good night.
