Welcome.
If you're listening to this,
It's likely because sleep hasn't come easily,
Or because rest feels different lately.
Tonight,
There's nothing you need to understand,
Resolve,
Or improve.
You don't need to make sense of the world before you rest within it.
You're invited to lie down now.
On your back,
Or in whatever position your body chooses for the night.
Let the surface beneath you fully receive your weight.
If at any point you drift in and out of sleep,
That's not a mistake.
You don't need to follow my words perfectly.
Your nervous system knows how to listen in its own way.
Tonight,
You're allowed to rest inside the uncertainty.
Many people are finding it harder to sleep right now.
Not because they're doing anything wrong,
But because the world has been asking more of our attention,
Our care,
Our concern.
If your body has been holding a quiet vigilance,
If part of you feels like it needs to stay alert,
Just in case,
That makes sense.
There's nothing wrong with you.
For the next few hours,
You don't need to be on watch.
You don't need to hold the whole world in your chest.
Whatever is unresolved will still be there tomorrow,
And you will meet it more resourced after rest.
For now,
Let this space be smaller.
Let it be just this body,
This breath,
This night.
Gently bring your attention to the places where your body meets the surface beneath you.
Notice the back of your head,
The weight of it being held.
Your shoulders,
Your upper back,
Your lower back.
You don't need to relax them.
Just notice the contact.
Let gravity do the work.
Bring awareness to your legs,
The backs of your thighs,
Your calves,
Your heels.
If your body has been bracing lately,
It may not soften all at once.
That's okay.
Even a small release is enough.
Now,
Notice your breath.
Not changing it,
Just noticing.
Where do you feel it most easily tonight?
Your chest?
Your belly?
Your nose?
Your throat?
Let the breath come and go like weather passing through a landscape.
With each exhale,
Imagine the day loosening its grip,
Not disappearing,
Just stepping back.
We'll gently move awareness through the body.
There's no need to visualize.
Simply sense.
Bring your attention to the crown of your head,
Then your forehead,
Your eyes,
Your jaw,
The throat,
The chest,
The space around your heart,
Your right shoulder,
Right arm,
Right hand,
Your left shoulder,
Left arm,
Left hand,
Your upper back,
Lower back,
The space behind your belly,
Your right hip,
Right foot,
Your left hip,
Left leg,
Left foot,
Your whole body resting,
Breathing,
Held.
Now gently,
Without going into stories,
Bring your awareness to how the world has felt lately.
Not specifics,
Just tone.
If things have felt unstable,
If the ground has felt less predictable,
If your sleep has been carrying a quiet unease,
You're not imagining it.
The body is sensitive to the collective atmosphere.
It notices shifts before the mind finds words.
Tonight,
You don't need to push that awareness away,
And you don't need to stay inside of it.
Imagine placing that feeling,
That unsettledness,
The uncertainty,
Into the earth beneath you.
Not to get rid of it,
Just to let it be supported.
You're allowed to rest,
Even if the world feels unfinished.
Now,
Quietly introduce a simple intention.
Not something to achieve,
Or something to become,
But just a permission.
You might silently repeat one of these,
Or allow your own words to arise.
Tonight,
I am allowed to rest.
I do not have to hold everything.
It is safe to soften,
Just for now.
Let the words sink beneath the surface,
Like a stone settling at the bottom of water.
No effort required.
As we move towards silence,
Know that you're not being left.
The sound that follows will remain with you through the night,
Steady,
Spacious,
Unobtrusive.
If you fall asleep,
Let it happen.
If you wake during the night,
The sound will be here to receive you again.
You don't need to listen anymore.
Your body knows what to do now.
Let the edges of your awareness soften.
Let thoughts come and go without engagement.
Nothing else is required of you tonight.
