A meditation for anxious minds.
Find a comfortable position right now.
Whether you are sitting or lying down,
Just allow your body to settle.
You don't have to do anything perfectly.
You don't have to feel a certain way before we begin.
You can come exactly as you are.
With whatever you are carrying right now.
And that is enough.
Take a slow breath in through your nose.
And a long,
Easy breath out through your mouth.
Again,
Breathe in slowly.
And release.
One more time,
A full breath in.
And let it go.
Just let that be the signal.
The day can wait.
Whatever is on your mind can wait.
For the next few minutes,
This time belongs entirely to you.
I want you to notice where you are right now.
Not in your thoughts,
But here,
In this room.
In this body.
On the surface that is holding you up.
You are here.
You are safe.
Nothing is required of you in this moment except to breathe and to be.
If anxiety is present with you right now,
That's okay.
You don't have to push it away.
You don't have to pretend it isn't there.
Anxiety has a way of making everything feel urgent.
Everything feel heavy.
Everything feel like it needs to be sold right now.
Right now,
Though,
There is nothing to solve this problem.
Right now there is only this breath.
This moment.
The stillness that is available to you even in the middle of the storm.
Notice your body,
Starting with your feet.
Just feel them.
Feel the weight of them.
The warmth of them.
They are here.
They are grounded.
They are connected to something solid beneath you.
Move your attention slowly up through your legs,
Your calves,
Your knees,
Your thighs,
Just noticing,
Not judging.
Just feeling the simple fact of your body being here,
Present,
Alive.
Your hips and lower back.
Notice if you are holding any tension there and just breathe into it.
You don't have to force it to release.
Just acknowledge it.
Sometimes simply being noticed is enough for tension to begin to soften.
Your stomach.
This is often where anxiety lives in the body.
That tight,
Contracted,
Unsettled feeling right in the center of you.
If you feel it there right now,
Just place your awareness gently on it.
Breathe into that space.
Not to fix it,
Not to fight it,
Just to be with it.
You are bigger than this feeling.
It is moving through you.
It is not you.
Your chest.
Notice if it feels tight or restricted.
Take a slow breath directly into your chest now and let it expand.
And release.
Feel it rise and fall.
Your heart is beating steadily.
It has been beating this whole time through every hard moment,
Every anxious night,
Every uncertain day.
It has not stopped,
Neither have you.
Your shoulders,
Let them drop.
So many of us carry the weight of everything we are responsible for right here.
The worry,
The planning,
The what-ifs.
Just for now,
Set it down.
You can pick it back up later if you need to.
But just for now,
Let your shoulders be soft.
Let them rest.
Your jaw,
Your face,
The space between your eyes.
Let it all soften.
You don't have to hold on so tightly.
Not right now,
Not here.
Your whole body is here,
Present,
Breathing,
Held.
Now I want you to bring your attention to your breath.
Not to control it.
Just to follow it.
Notice the natural rhythm of it,
The gentle rise and fall.
The way your body knows how to do this without you having to think about it.
Your body just knows how to breathe.
It knows how to rest.
And knows how to find its way back to calm.
You can trust it.
With each breath out,
Imagine you are releasing something.
Not dramatically,
Just gently.
Like setting down something you have been holding for a long time without realizing it.
A worry,
Fear.
A thought that has been circling.
Just let it go with the breath.
Out and away.
You don't need it right now.
And with each breath in,
Receive something,
Steadiness.
Quiet.
The simple sense that you are okay.
That this moment is okay.
That you are not behind,
Not failing.
Not falling apart.
You are here.
Breathing.
Doing the best you can.
And that is enough.
Anxiety tells you that you need to have all the answers.
That you need to know how things will turn out.
That you need to be prepared for every possible outcome.
But the truth is,
You were never meant to carry all of that.
Not all at once.
Not alone.
Not tonight.
You only have to handle this moment,
Just this one.
Not tomorrow.
Not next week.
Not every hard thing that might happen.
Just right now.
And right now,
You are breathing.
Right now you are still.
Right now you are safe.
Let that settle in.
Right now,
You are safe.
If your mind wanders,
And it will,
That's okay.
That's what minds do.
Just notice where it went without judgment.
And gently bring it back.
Back to your breath.
Back to this room.
Back to the simple,
Steady rhythm of being here.
You are allowed to rest from your worry.
You are allowed to put down the weight of everything you are trying to figure out.
You were allowed to just be still for a little while.
Stillness is not giving up.
Stillness is not weakness.
Stillness is one of the bravest things you can choose when everything in you wants to keep running.
Stay here now,
Breathing slowly.
Feeling the ground beneath you.
Feeling the steadiness of your own body.
Feeling the quiet that is available to you right in this moment.
You are not your anxiety.
You are the one who is breathing through it.
You are the one who showed up for yourself today.
You are the one who chose to be still.
And that matters more than you know.
Take one more slow breath in.
Hold it gently for just a moment.
And then release it completely.
And when you are ready,
Begin to bring your awareness back to the room around you.
Wiggle your fingers and your toes.
Take a gentle stretch if you need one.
And when you open your eyes,
Carry the stillness with you.
Even just a little,
Into whatever comes next.
You did something good for yourself today.
Remember that.
