Welcome,
Dear one.
This meditation is designed to empower you to feel ready and capable approaching the birth of your child.
We will be using metaphors from nature to connect with your innate strength.
Start by finding a comfortable position to rest,
Whether sitting or lying down.
Take a moment to make any final adjustments.
Perhaps fluff your pillow,
Pull a blanket over you,
And adjust your body so that there is no tension.
Ensure that you feel fully supported.
Find stillness in your body as you focus now on your breath.
Breathing in,
Filling your lungs completely,
And then exhale,
Releasing all the breath and with it,
Any tension.
Breathe in again,
Giving your body what it needs,
And breathe out,
Releasing anything that needs to be let go.
One more full body breath in,
And then an elongated out-breath,
Releasing it,
Letting it go.
With that last breath,
Feel your body sink deeper into whatever you're resting on,
Relaxing and releasing,
Feeling restful and peaceful.
Allow your breath to find a natural rhythm as you scan your body,
Starting with your upper body,
Breathing into this part of you,
Your head and forehead,
Your eyes and eyebrows,
Allowing them to gently unknit themselves,
Smoothing out any wrinkles,
Any tension you have been holding onto.
Feel your cheeks becoming soft and limp as your jaw drops down and away,
All the muscles in your neck beginning to relax.
Your shoulders now drop away from your ears,
Breathing deeply as every muscle becomes loose and completely relaxed now,
As if a blanket of relaxation is covering you.
Your breath continues to travel down from your neck to your back,
Your chest,
Releasing all tightness as you relax and sink deeper and deeper.
Breathing in a deep belly breath as your abdomen releases into total relaxation,
Breathing out any stress,
Worry or fear,
Feeling them flow out and away from your body right now.
Letting that same relaxation flow down your arms,
Wrists and hands,
Releasing the tension out your fingertips.
Now bring your attention to that wonderful place that holds your baby,
Your womb.
Breathe in a breath of gratitude,
Breathing life into that space.
Breathe into and around your pelvic floor now,
Letting it relax with your breath.
Feeling the wonderful combination of its strength and softness,
And the tingle of life within it as it prepares for the most wonderful experience of bringing forth new life.
Let that breath continue from your pelvic floor,
Through your legs,
Down to your knees,
Your shins,
Your feet,
Taking any remaining tension out your toes.
Your whole body is so completely relaxed now.
It's time to journey in your mind as you reflect on and prepare for what's to come.
Give yourself permission to put your thinking mind to rest and allow your subconscious mind to be fully engaged right now.
Very good.
Picture yourself hiking through a dense forest.
It has just rained and you can smell freshness and life all around you.
Tiny drops of water glisten on the plants and trees along the trail.
Take in the shades of peaceful green coating this landscape.
Listen to the sounds of nature around you and the soft padding of your footsteps along the way.
You are amazed at how lush and abundant life is in this place.
It has everything it needs to blossom and grow.
Feel a slight incline as you hike along the trail,
And the different sensation that gives you climbing upwards.
You can feel your muscles working.
Feel the strength within them grow with each step.
Rise out through the leaves to the light shining through them.
It warms you and reminds you that you are not alone.
There will be light to guide your way.
Now you feel the trail straighten and level out.
Enjoy the ease of this stretch of the trail now.
Watch your feet rhythmically step along the path,
Listening to the gentle padded steps of your feet on fallen leaves.
As you look ahead,
You see more inclines on the horizon,
Steeper and more challenging ones with big boulders and rocky paths.
Allow yourself to feel inspired and motivated by that challenge,
Believing in your abilities and trusting your body.
The challenge is what strengthens you.
Begin on an incline again towards that rocky path ahead,
The more challenging path.
Now you can feel yourself using more parts of your body than ever before.
You feel so fully capable and confident.
Feel new muscles working,
Becoming stronger.
Feel your body really working now as you climb upwards.
With each step,
Your confidence multiplies.
And then,
At long last,
You reach the mountain's summit.
Sitting on the summit,
Enjoying the spectacular views,
You reflect on this experience.
It reminds you of the birthing process.
Just like climbing a mountain,
You can be strengthened by the challenge of birth.
At times there will be ease and at times there will be challenge.
Both are needed.
Both are good.
Both rest and work have purpose and have a place in this experience.
You feel confident,
Trusting in your body and the strength within you.
Trusting in nature and what your body was made to do.
All fear and anxiety leave your body right now.
Just as you've reached this mountain's summit,
You will birth your baby.
It is all beautiful.
If you are listening to this at a time when you would like to drift off to sleep,
You may do so now and simply ignore the words that follow.
If you would like to be alert and awake,
Take a moment to become aware of your body and your breath.
Wiggle your fingers and toes.
Take one giant breath in.
Then,
When you're ready,
Open your eyes.
