Welcome to five-finger prayer,
A great technique for families with young children,
Which allows you to guide them with special prompts to know what to say to God if you're new to prayer.
So let's begin.
Let's look at our hands.
Go ahead,
Wiggle your fingers,
And then start with our thumb.
Make a thumbs up,
Which means you're awesome,
God.
Say you're awesome,
And then say whatever it is that you feel is awesome about God right now.
We move on to the pointer finger.
This is where we point upwards and say what we're thankful for.
Say thank you,
God,
And add all the good things you can remember from your day or week right now.
Next we move on to our tall man finger.
This is the finger that reminds us what we're sorry for,
And so we think back,
What are we sorry about?
What do we feel bad about?
We can bring all of this to God,
Knowing that he loves us no matter what we've done.
So say I'm sorry,
God,
And add whatever it is you're sorry for.
We move on to our ring finger.
As we look at this finger,
We pray for others.
We say help others,
And we mention those people that need help.
Pray for them right now.
Our last finger is the help me finger.
This is our little pinky.
When we consider this finger,
We consider what we need from God,
And we pray for our needs by saying help me and then asking for whatever it is you need.
Go ahead and do that right now.
We have prayed for so much today,
But there's one more thing.
I want you to imagine in the palm of your hand a heart.
This represents God's heart and his love for you.
So draw your hand to your chest,
Feel the warmth of his love on your own heart,
And say thank you,
God,
For loving me.
I love you.
