Hello,
Lovable being.
Welcome to this new video of our series about ADHD brains and how they function.
Today we are going to look at a famous question and famous thing about ADHD minds which is They interrupt everybody all the time.
Sorry about that.
Yeah,
No,
I mean the biggest factor is impulsivity.
Impulsivity being one of the three main criteria to diagnose ADHD within people.
But the actual fact behind it that most people don't know is that our working memory is very fragile.
And your brain knows it.
He knows it because he's practiced it his whole life.
Doing what it can to get an idea through.
It's like a defense mechanism,
Let's say,
Towards the threat.
Fragile working memory.
So let's say you are in a conversation,
You're listening to someone and you're passionate about a subject.
Then an idea popped.
But your brain knows,
Because of your fragile working memory,
That you might lose the thought.
So your brain will naturally push it.
And that explains the impulsivity,
Because your brain knows that if you are not saying it right now,
You might lose the thought forever.
You don't want to do that,
Obviously.
So you just interrupt someone.
There is one tool that I can recommend that has been very useful for me,
Is to always have a notebook with you.
If not,
A phone,
But a phone may be a little bit dangerous because then you might lose it.
Get focused on something else in the middle of your conversation which is not what you want.
So I think a notebook is a good idea.
Or if you don't have anything handy,
You can also just.
.
.
Think.
So what you gonna do?
And just write a keyword of your thought on that notebook or repeat it.
Like keep it on the tip of your tongue which allows you to let the person speak go to the end of what they want to express because also you don't know they might just say what you were going to say And then you can add what you wanted to say.
I hope that this little video helped you understand why do we interrupt people all day,
All the time.
And maybe give you like a tool to try and be a little bit more chill about this and I'm sure it will also help you in your everyday life with the people reacting towards you.
I wish you a very beautiful way back to your ADHD day.
Bye-bye.
