Body Scan Meditation Awareness in Death Begin by arriving.
Let the body settle into stillness,
Either seated or lying down.
Let your breath come naturally,
Soft and unforced,
As you comfortably slow it.
Close your eyes.
Feel the ground beneath you.
Feel the quiet presence within.
Start with the breath,
No control,
Just notice.
Follow the rise and the fall.
Feel the chest expand and release.
Allow your body to relax,
As if you're beginning to disappear into the moment.
Now,
Imagine this.
Death has arrived,
Not as pain,
Not fear,
But as silence.
Not as dying,
But to be dead.
Let the thought pass through you gently.
The mind is gone.
The chatter has stopped.
What remains?
A quiet awareness still holds.
The faintest light.
Something still here,
Still sensing.
This is where we are.
Bring your awareness now to what remains.
Start with your hands.
Feel the palms,
The fingers,
The subtle energy resting there.
Then the back of the hands.
Let the breath soften into every sensation.
Take your time in each part.
Move to the forearms,
Elbows,
And upper arms.
Breathe through them slowly,
As if light is flowing in with every inhale and dissolving tension with every exhale.
Let this breath climb to the shoulders,
Softening,
Melting,
Releasing,
Loosening what has been held.
Now to the throat.
Breathe into any tightness.
Feel the breath pass through with no resistance.
Relax the jaw.
Let the skin of the face go slack.
Expressionless.
Unburdened.
Bring attention to the chest.
Then down to the belly.
Inhale.
Allow your awareness to settle here,
Like a feather,
Floating down to rest.
Now,
At your pace,
In the same fashion,
Downward through the hips,
Thighs,
And knees.
Breathe into the shins,
Feet,
And all the way down to the toes.
Then,
Gently trace your energy up the back of the legs and into the spine.
Let each vertebra soften.
Let the back relax.
Relax and unfold.
Breathing energy into any knots.
Travel upward until you reach the neck,
Scalp,
And the crown of the head.
Your body is relaxed.
Your breath is steady.
Your awareness is vast.
Now,
Fade deeper.
Imagine gently that you are accepting death,
Not with fear,
But with grace.
A quiet merging.
Awareness meets awareness.
Thought dissipates.
Form dissolves.
There is no you here.
No memory.
No story.
Only this field.
Open,
Endless,
Still.
Stay here.
Let your body breathe in this vastness.
Let your awareness rest without effort.
Be here as long as you wish.
And when it feels time to return,
Do so slowly.
Feel the weight of your body again.
Let the breath be natural,
But keep something of that stillness with you.
Take it into your day,
Not as an idea,
But as a way of being.
Let the ego fall away where it's not needed.
Embrace the expansive quiet of what remains.
This is the practice,
A rehearsal for release,
A reminder of what never truly was and what never truly dies.
Thank you.
