Welcome to this gentle forgiveness meditation.
I invite you to get comfortable whether that is sitting upright,
Elongating your spine or lying down.
Take a slow,
Gentle,
Deep breath in through your nose and softly exhale through your mouth.
Deeply feeling your belly expanding on the inhale and allow the body to soften as you breathe out.
Let your shoulders relax,
Let your jaw unclench,
Allow your body to settle.
Feel the earth beneath you,
Holding you,
Supporting you.
You don't need to do anything right now,
There's nowhere else to be,
Nothing to do,
Just breathe.
With every inhale,
Inviting softness.
With every exhale,
Releasing tension.
Now gently bring your awareness to your heart.
If you like,
Place one or both hands over your chest,
If that feels comfortable to you.
Feeling the warmth of your hands,
Feeling the rhythm of your heartbeat,
Breath moving through your body.
Your heart has carried so many experiences,
Moments of joy,
Of love,
Of pain,
Of disappointment,
Longing and sometimes without even realizing it,
We carry old hurts within our hearts.
Today we are simply creating a space to soften around those places,
Not to force anything,
Not to push anything away,
Just to gently allow what is ready to be released to begin to ever so gently shift and move.
Taking another slow deep breath in and now imagine yourself in a safe and peaceful place.
Perhaps it is somewhere in nature,
A quiet forest,
A beautiful beach,
A place in the mountains or somewhere that feels sacred and calm to you.
It might be a place that you have visited many times or it might be a place of your imagination.
Allow yourself to feel the safety of this place,
Feel that you are supported here.
Nothing can harm you in this space.
Take a few deep breaths,
Allowing your body to relax and soften as you take in your surroundings.
Now gently bring to mind someone you might have heard in the past,
Someone you feel ready to acknowledge.
See this person standing in front of you in this safe place,
Notice their presence,
Feel into your heart and without judgment,
Without shame,
Simply with honesty,
Take a deep breath and when you feel ready,
Slowly say within,
I acknowledge that I may have caused you pain.
I acknowledge that I may have caused you pain.
I'm deeply sorry,
Please forgive me.
I'm deeply sorry,
Please forgive me.
Allow whatever feelings arise to move through your body,
Perhaps sadness,
Humility,
Compassion,
Just breathe with it.
Allow yourself to feel the sensations of the emotions.
If forgiveness comes,
Receive it.
If it does not,
Simply honor the intention in your heart.
The willingness to take responsibility is already healing.
Take another gentle breath and allow this person to slowly fade from your awareness.
Now bring to mind someone who has hurt you,
Someone you feel ready to begin to forgive.
See them standing in front of you in your safe place.
Notice how your body feels as you see them.
Take a slow deep breath in and remember that we are all human,
That we all make mistakes,
We all act from our wounds at times.
Forgiveness does not mean what happened was okay.
It simply means you are choosing not to carry the weight any longer.
And when you feel ready,
Say softly within,
I acknowledge the pain this caused me.
I acknowledge the pain this has caused me and I choose to release the hold this story has had on my heart.
And I choose to release the hold this story has had on my heart.
I allow myself to move toward peace.
I allow myself to move toward peace.
See if you can find a small space of acceptance within your heart,
Even if it's just a tiny opening that is enough.
Take a deep breath and gently allow this person to fade from your awareness.
Now bring your attention back to yourself,
Feeling your heartbeat,
Feeling your pulse.
Often the person we struggle most to forgive is ourselves,
For choices we've made,
For things we've said or didn't say,
For moments we wish we could change.
Place your hands over your heart once again,
Feel the warmth beneath your palms.
Take another slow,
Deep breath into your belly and softly say within,
I forgive myself.
I forgive myself.
I release the past.
I release the past.
I honor the person I was and the lessons I have learned.
I honor the person I was and the lessons I have learned.
I allow myself to begin again.
I allow myself to begin again.
I allow myself to begin again.
Feel compassion flowing through your chest.
Remember you are human.
You are learning.
You are growing.
You are worthy of love.
You are worthy of peace.
Take another slow,
Deep and steady breath into your belly and slowly exhale with a sound.
Allow your heart to feel a little lighter,
A little softer,
A little more open.
Taking another deep breath into your belly through the nose and once again letting go with a sound.
And when you are ready,
Gently bring your awareness back to the room.
Wiggling your fingers,
Wiggling your toes,
Ever so gently fluttering your eyelids open and carrying the sense of softness and peace within you.
