Okay,
Stop.
Whatever you're doing,
Just stop for five minutes.
Walk away from it.
The kitchen,
The mess,
The noise,
The room,
It's all happening in.
Work.
Step out of it.
Find somewhere quiet.
Your desk,
The bedroom,
Bathroom,
The car,
Backstep,
Anywhere you can be on your own for a few minutes.
It can wait that long.
Now sit up.
Get yourself properly settled.
Rest your hands on your lap or one on your tummy.
Whichever feels right.
Let them be so.
Close your mouth gently.
Rest your tongue on the roof of your mouth,
Just behind your front teeth.
And from here.
We breathe through the nose only,
Just the nose,
Nothing else to think about.
Let your weight sink down into the seat.
You don't have to hold yourself up right now.
Let the chair take it.
Shoulders down,
Away from your ears.
And listen.
Whatever it is that's brought you here,
The stress,
The day,
All of it at once.
The thing you can't even put into words.
I know it's a lot.
It's been too much.
You don't have to solve any of it right now.
For these five minutes,
We've got you.
It's held.
It's not going anywhere,
And neither are you.
We're just going to breathe.
Soft breath in through the nose,
Quiet,
Gentle.
Hands on your tummy,
Feel it rise just a little.
And now the important part.
Let it go slowly back out through the nose.
A long slow breath out the nose.
Let it stretch.
Slower than the breath in.
The long out breath is where the calm lives.
That's it.
Soft breath in and a long,
Slow breath out.
Let it empty gently all the way in your own time.
No forcing,
Just letting it lengthen.
Tongue still resting on the roof of your mouth.
Lips closed,
Just the nose.
Soft in,
Long out,
Again and again.
Whatever's waiting out there,
It's still being held for you.
In here,
There's nothing to manage.
Just this breath,
The next one.
Your body already knows how,
If only giving it room.
Notice a bit of buildup of saliva in your mouth.
You feel a little softer than you were a few minutes ago.
Your breath is slower.
You did that on your own,
In the middle of everything.
That's yours.
The day's still out there.
None of it's gone.
But you're at that very edge.
Of not having that stress anymore.
You've got a bit of ground back under you.
Bit of air.
That's all you needed.
Just enough room to stand.
So when you're ready,
No rush,
Let your hands settle.
One more soft breath in.
A longer breath out the nose and we'll step back into it.
Not all of it,
Just the next small thing.
You can do the next small thing,
I know you can.
You've got this.
Go gently.
I'm proud of you.
