This guided Hayahay practice is a Filipino meditative ritual honoring the ears as a sacred soul vessel and a gateway to presence through listening. Through gentle chanting (Ha–Ya–Hay), layered listening awareness, affirmations, visualization, and vessel anointing through soft ear holding, you are invited to release sensory overload and rest in the wisdom of sound and silence. This somatic ritual nurtures gratitude, connection, and clarity—allowing you to listen not only to the world, but also to yourself. Rooted in ancestral Filipino wisdom, Hayahay offers a slow and respectful return to self-honoring through breath, body, and awareness.

Hello,

Hello.

Welcome to Hayahai Meditation.

You are here today to honor your ears,

The vessels through which you receive sound,

Silence,

And meaning.

Your ears have listened to words spoken and unspoken.

They have heard laughter,

Conflict,

Comfort,

And grief.

Each day they take in conversations,

Devices,

Music,

And noise,

Often without choice and rarely with rest.

Even in quiet moments,

Your ears remain alert,

Always listening,

Always receiving.

This Hayahai practice invites you to thank your ears for everything they have heard.

To release the weight of noise,

Expectation,

And constant attention.

Here you are not required to listen outward.

You are invited to turn inward.

As this meditation begins,

Allow your ears to soften.

Let sound come and go without effort.

You are allowed to rest from listening and simply be present.

Find a comfortable position.

Sit upright,

But relaxed.

Shoulders soft,

Hands resting in your lap or on your knees.

Take a moment to adjust your clothing so that you feel as comfortable as possible.

This is your sacred time.

A space to release,

To rest,

To honor your being,

And to care for the gift of life.

The breath is a gift of life.

Each inhale reminds you that you are alive.

Each exhale invites you to let go.

We'll begin with three deep breaths.

Take a deep breath in.

And release,

Letting go of tension.

Take another deep breath in.

As you breathe out,

Imagine setting aside all to-do's,

Worries,

And plans.

One more deep breath in.

And release,

Giving yourself full permission to be present.

Now notice your feet on the ground,

Rooted.

Your sitting bones are supported by the mat.

Your spine tall and relaxed,

Shoulders soft.

Feel your breath moving through your belly,

Chest,

And body.

Inhale,

Receive.

Exhale,

Release.

Sense the whole body seated here,

Steady and aligned.

If you feel any pain during this practice,

I invite you to give it attention and kind intention,

Letting go of the tension with your breath.

Now bring your awareness to your natural breath.

Notice the inhale and the exhale.

Imagine each inhale as a wave of calm entering.

Each exhale as a gentle release,

Letting go of what you don't need.

When a thought arises,

Congratulate yourself for noticing.

That awareness is a gift.

Then let the thought drift away with your exhale,

Like a leaf on a stream.

Notice the quiet pause at the top of the inhale,

And again at the bottom of the exhale.

Rest in these paces.

Now expand awareness beyond the breath.

Sense your whole body breathing.

Include the space around you,

The air,

The sounds,

The stillness.

Rest here,

Aware of body and space.

We are about to start the chanting of Hayahay.

We will start with Ha.

Please chant with me.

Breathe in,

And let's chant Ha three times.

Now visualize yourself in front of you.

A version of yourself bright,

Light,

And smiling.

This is your soul that reminds you that you've never been alone.

Your soul is now embracing you.

Feel the warmth of this embrace,

Or perhaps a gentle breeze.

This is your connection to your essence.

Let us now chant Ya three times.

Now bring to mind someone you deeply love.

Picture their face and feel the warmth within your chest,

As is love radiating from your heart.

See light pouring down from the sky,

Filling your heart and creating a connection with the source.

This is your connection to light.

This is your coherence to your ancestors.

Let us now chant Hayahay three times.

Please chant with me.

Now visualize that light beginning to expand from your heart,

Enveloping your entire body.

Visualize it going out from your heart.

Several inches,

Filling your entire natural energy field.

It goes outwards from your body,

Several inches,

Filling your room,

Going outwards your house.

You might even see yourself taller and bigger.

Feel your natural energy field.

This is your light.

This is your natural energy field.

This is you,

Alive and vibrant.

Allow yourself to soak in this sensation,

As I will now leave you for a few moments to feel this warmth.

You can now start to come back to your space,

So you can prepare yourself.

Whenever you feel ready,

Bring your awareness back to the physical space and prepare for anointing.

You can use extra virgin coconut oil or any organic oil that feels aligned with you.

Take your time.

So you can come back to this space.

You can now start anointing the ears,

A little bit of oil and a massage.

Also in the back of your ears.

Now you can express gratitude for hearing,

For receiving wisdom,

For listening deeply,

And for the music we hear in our daily lives.

Repeat the following affirmations in your mind.

I honor my ability to hear beauty.

I am grateful for the wisdom in listening.

I cherish deep connections through sound.

I celebrate the joy of music in my life.

I appreciate the gift of sound around me.

I am thankful for every moment of hearing.

Now silently offer your ears a prayer.

Take a deep breath in and sigh it out with release.

Now keep your eyes closed.

Bring back your awareness to your natural breath.

Notice the inhale and the exhale.

Imagine each inhale as a wave of calm entering.

Each exhale as a gentle release,

Letting go of what you don't need.

Notice the quiet pause at the top of the inhale and again at the bottom of the exhale.

Rest in this paces.

Now expand awareness beyond your breath.

Sense your whole body breathing.

Include the space around you,

The air,

The sounds,

The stillness.

Rest here aware of body and space.

We are about to chant once again Hayahay.

Starting with Ha to honor our connection with the breath.

Please chant with me.

Now once again visualize your soul embracing you.

Feel the warmth of this embrace or perhaps a gentle breeze.

This is your connection to your essence.

Inhale and chant.

Now bring back to mind that person you deeply love.

Picture their face and feel the warmth within your chest once again.

This love transforms into pure light radiating towards your whole body.

Now see the light pouring down from the sky,

Filling your heart and creating connection with the source,

The light and your ancestors.

Once again let's chant Hayahay to honor this connection with the source.

Inhale.

Now visualize that light beginning to expand from your heart enveloping your entire body.

Once again visualize it going out several inches,

Feeling your natural energy field.

Feel this light flow.

This is your release.

You are now cleansed,

Alive and vibrant.

Allow yourself to soak in this sensation.

I will now leave you for a few moments to feel this warmth.

We are now about to end this meditation.

Begin to sense your surroundings again.

The room,

The air,

The ground beneath you.

Without opening your eyes,

Start to move your fingers,

Your toes.

Gently stretch.

Keep your eyes closed.

Turn softly to one side,

Right or left.

And embrace yourself in gratitude.

Stay here until my final call with a bell so you can come back.

Thank you for honoring your ears through this Hayahay practice.

As you move forward,

May you listen with presence to the world around you and to the wisdom within you.

Thank you for allowing yourself this moment of quiet.
