Hello and welcome.
This meditation is called Your Imagine You Has No Identity.
Notice how much energy can go into maintaining the image of yourself.
You may want to be seen as a certain kind of person.
You may want others to understand you.
To see the work you have done,
To recognise your achievements.
And when someone sees you differently from how you see yourself,
There may be a momentum to uphold who you believe yourself to be.
But what is being upheld?
An image,
A collection of thoughts about who you are.
And the interesting thing is this image is never complete.
There is always something to improve upon,
Perhaps one's reluctance,
Insensitivity,
Selfishness.
So the self-created you is continually being improved upon,
Being adjusted and shaped through knowledge and experience.
And throughout all of this,
Through everything we call ourselves or are known by,
We eventually arrive at a conclusion,
This is my identity.
But what if you didn't have to keep upgrading your belief of this you?
For a moment,
Don't think about all that can be improved upon.
Sitting here now.
You are not being asked to become a better version of yourself.
You are simply here.
And yet there may still be a long-running undercurrent.
The familiar inner drive pointing towards becoming something more than you are now.
But,
For this moment,
There is no need to project an image of what that moor will look like.
Simply notice,
While remaining absolutely still,
What is present where you are now.
Are they feelings?
Experiences?
Memories?
Are you breathing?
Noticing all,
No matter how subtle.
Are you aware of all that is happening around and within you?
Whatever it may be,
It simply is present in your awareness.
Now,
In this quiet presence of self-awareness,
There is no need,
No requirement to improve the potential image you have of yourself in the future.
This moment of one's immediate awareness is really worth looking at more closely.
If nothing needs to change,
If nothing needs to be improved upon,
What is actually here in this moment as the fundamental nature of your being?
This is where the power of focused self-enquiry can become so revealing.
If all the personal tools used for self-improvement were put to one side.
What is there in this immediate presence of NOW?
What is here?
Don't turn to the mind for an answer.
Don't look beyond this immediate moment.
Importantly remain with what is present right here,
As your fundamental nature.
Before the mind says,
Oh,
I am this or I am that,
There is in this moment a spacious presence.
A deeper awareness.
Behind all mental projecting.
And this subjective awareness does not need an identity in order to be present.
Or to base itself upon.
It is inseparable,
Formless,
Desireless,
Unidentified.
And already here.
It doesn't need a story to prove what it is.
It doesn't need to compare itself with anything.
It doesn't need to become anything when it is already whole,
Impersonal and complete.
This is why the search for your true self will never succeed.
You are looking for an identity in the world.
Unknown,
Something with quality,
Something that can be measured or seen.
While what you are looking through to find the next upgrade is already here.
Without an identity.
So for a moment,
Stop looking for someone to be.
And simply notice this.
The truth of what you are is present,
Whole,
And complete,
Whether any need to be improved,
Defined,
Or localized.
