Rabbi Hanoch of Alexander taught that sadness is not a sin,

But even the most severe wrongdoing is not as likely to bring about the confusion of heart brought about by sadness.

Rest your eyes,

Relaxing body and breath.

Take a moment to rest your hand gently on your own heart space.

Breathe into the heart space allowing for a softening.

As you notice the mind-body connection,

Allow yourself to check in with your own sadness if you are experiencing that emotion.

As you sit with sadness,

Allow the self to notice the heart confusion that accompanies sadness.

Just taking note,

Not fixing.

Your sadness and confusion are not a sin.

They just are.

Offer words of consolation to your sadness as you would to a dear friend.

Like,

I am here for you.

I'll hold your hand through this.

I am used to hearing, "you should be happy just to be a jew, but if that's enough for some reason, have a shot of vodka." So this was surprising.

This was exactly what I needed, just when I needed it.
