When downward spirals leave you spinning with no way out of the monkey mind, this 5-minute practice helps you pivot from noise to peaceful growth. Using a palm spiral and fern imagery, we’ll honor the stillness at the center—then grow upward, one small curve at a time. For when you need to trust that even tight coils can unfold into ease and expansion.

Hello,

This is Zia.

Let's spend a few minutes using a simple way to interrupt and change the direction of your swirling thoughts.

When your thoughts spiral downward,

Tight and relentless,

This practice helps you slow down,

Find the still point,

And then gently rise again into generative growth.

Let's begin.

Rest one hand open,

Palm up.

With your other index finger,

Begin from the edge of your palm,

Tracing an inward spiral slowly toward the center.

As you spiral in,

Notice,

Are your thoughts rushing,

Tangled?

Let the spiral grow smaller and slower until your fingertip rests at the very center.

Pause here.

Feel the quiet point where your touch meets your palm.

Take a full breath in and release.

This is where the old spin ends and new growth can begin.

Now place your spiraling hand on your heart.

If your thoughts had a shape,

Would they be a knotted thread or a loose curl?

No need to change them,

Just notice.

Your own touch reminds you,

Even the tightest spiral has a center of calm.

Now,

Imagine your growth like a fern frond uncurling,

Not in a rush,

Not all at once,

But one tiny bend at a time.

Each day's light decides the next curve.

No force,

No pushing,

Just the fern's quiet certainty.

Some days,

Only one new twist,

Others,

Perhaps as many as three.

This is how life moves when it's not afraid,

Not in leaps,

But in patient unfurling.

You are both the fern and the hand that learns its patience.

Your nervous system is learning,

Small is not stuck.

Each time your finger finds the spiral center,

Each breath that matches the fern's pace,

You're rewiring the lie that said,

If I'm not racing,

I'm failing.

Growth is a process,

Not a performance.

Let your hands rest now,

But keep the spiral wisdom.

The thoughts may whirl again,

And you'll remember,

Even the tightest coil holds the shape of its becoming.

Thanks so much! I love the spiral exercise. It drew me in. It takes the mind and unravels it a bit where needed. That could be a practice within itself for me Gratitude 🙏🏼
