The following meditation is simple and profound.
It is a mantra meditation called So Hum.
So Hum translates to mean I am that or alternatively that I am.
So refers to I am.
Hum refers to that.
Together,
The mantra directly references one's connectedness to the universe.
This usage is intended to enhance awareness of the self on both the physical and mental levels enabling the practitioner to turn inward,
To let go,
And to experience the authentic self.
To begin,
Inhale and say So,
Exhale and say Hum.
The focus is on the breath.
Vocalize the practice initially and then as time goes by,
Soften the spoken mantra.
Slowly internalizing So Hum in silence with the breath.
After you conclude,
Sit for a few minutes in transition,
Feeling the effects of the mantra meditation.
In preparation,
Find a comfortable seated position,
Cross-legged in Sukhasana,
Half lotus or full lotus with one or both feet on opposing thighs,
Ardhapadmasana or Padmasana respectively,
Or on your heels in Seiza.
Use a cushion or a meditation bench or alternatively a chair where you are seated on the edge,
Feet firmly on the floor.
Lengthen the spine and close the eyes.
Relax,
Soften the belly and allow the breath to flow unobstructed.
