In this meditation,
We'll be exploring the image of a mountain,
Steady,
Grounded,
Deeply rooted.
This practice is designed to help you cultivate a sense of stability,
Resilience and a calm presence,
Even when life feels unpredictable or overwhelming.
By imagining yourself as a mountain,
You may begin to notice that thoughts,
Emotions and sensations,
Like changing weather,
Can come and go,
While a deeper part of you remains steady and unmoved.
This meditation can help reduce stress,
Increase emotional balance and build a stronger sense of inner calm and perspective.
So take a moment now to settle into a comfortable position.
You can sit upright in a chair or on the floor,
Or you can lie down if that feels better for you.
Allow your body to be supported.
And just gently closing the eyes or softening the gaze if that feels more comfortable for you.
And just as best you can,
Bring in your attention to your breath.
No need to change it,
Just noticing the natural rhythm of breathing in and breathing out.
Feeling the gentle rise and fall of your chest or your abdomen.
The coolness of the inhale.
The warmth of the exhale.
Let your body begin to settle.
If your mind is busy,
That's completely okay.
There's nothing to fix,
There's nothing to push away.
Simply noticing and gently returning to the breath.
As best you can,
Allow your shoulders to soften,
Your jaw to unclench,
Your forehead to smooth.
With each exhale,
You might imagine just releasing a little bit of tension.
Letting the body grow heavier,
More supported.
Now,
As best you can,
Begin to imagine a mountain.
It can be any kind of mountain.
It might be one you've seen before,
Or one your mind creates.
Noticing its shape,
Its size,
And its presence.
Perhaps it has a strong,
Wide base,
Rooted deeply into the earth.
Its peak,
Rising high into the sky.
Taking your time to really see it.
Noticing the details of the mountain,
The textures of rock,
The slopes,
The ridges.
Maybe there are trees or snow at the top,
Or maybe there's clouds moving around the mountain.
This mountain has been here for a very long time.
It has witnessed changing seasons,
Storms,
Sunshine,
Wind,
And stillness.
And through it all,
It remains.
Now,
As best you can,
Gently begin to imagine that you are this mountain.
Your body becomes the base.
It's grounded,
Stable.
It's deeply rooted.
Feel the weight of your body connecting with the surface beneath you.
It's solid,
Steady,
Supported.
Your spine becomes the mountain,
Rising upward.
Tall and dignified.
Your head,
The peak of the mountain,
Reaching towards the sky.
Just allowing yourself to take a few breaths here,
Embodying this sense of strength and presence.
You are not rigid,
But stable.
Not tense,
But grounded.
Now imagine the weather moving around your mountain.
Perhaps clouds drift on by,
Or winds move across the surface.
The rain may fall,
Or sunlight may shine.
These changing conditions represent thoughts,
Emotions,
And experiences.
Sometimes calm,
Sometimes intense.
But the mountain does not chase the weather,
Nor does it resist it.
It simply allows.
If thoughts arise,
Notice them,
Like passing clouds.
If emotions appear,
Feel them,
Like changing weather patterns.
You don't need to push anything away.
Just observe.
You are the mountain.
Steady beneath it all.
Even during storms,
Strong winds,
Heavy rain,
Maybe snow,
The mountain remains grounded.
It does not disappear.
It does not lose its essence.
Just see,
As best you can,
If you can connect with that same quality within yourself.
A part of you that is steady,
Unchanged,
Present.
If your mind wanders,
Gently guide it back.
Back to the image of the mountain.
Back to the feeling of stability in your body.
Back to the breath,
Rising and falling like the slopes of the mountain.
Take a few moments here in silence,
Simply being the mountain.
Notice how it feels to embody this steadiness.
You might begin to sense a quiet strength,
A grounded calm.
A feeling that you can allow experiences to come and go without being carried away by them.
There is space here.
Space to observe.
Space to respond rather than react.
Even if parts of you feel unsettled,
See if you can also notice the part that remains steady.
The mountain is always here.
Now slowly begin to release the image of the mountain.
Let it fade gently into the background.
Bring your awareness back to your body.
Notice in the points of contact,
Your feet,
Your legs,
Your back,
Your hands.
Return to the natural rhythm of your breath.
The natural inhale and exhale.
Just as best you can,
Allowing yourself to take a moment to notice how you feel.
Perhaps a little more grounded.
Maybe a little more spacious.
There's no right or wrong experience.
When you're ready,
Begin to wiggle your fingers a little bit.
Maybe wiggling the toes.
Perhaps rolling your shoulders or stretching slightly.
Introducing a little bit of movement.
And when it feels comfortable,
Slowly opening your eyes,
Refocusing your gaze.
And as you move back into your day,
You might carry this image with you.
At any moment,
You can pause and reconnect with your inner mountain.
That place of steadiness.
That place of calm within you.
No matter what weather passes through your life,
This grounded presence is always available.
And just taking a moment to thank yourself for taking the time out of your day to practice.
It really is a gift to yourself.
