Welcome to this morning mindfulness meditation.
How we begin our mornings can often shape the tone of the rest of our day.
So it's easy to wake up and immediately move into that doing mode,
Checking our phones,
Thinking about responsibilities,
Rushing into whatever lies ahead.
This meditation is an invitation to do something different.
Over the next few minutes,
We'll create a gentle space to pause,
Reconnect with the present moment and cultivate a sense of awareness before stepping into the day.
There is nothing you need to achieve during this practice and no right or wrong way to experience it.
Simply allow yourself to arrive exactly as you are.
Whether you're waking,
Feeling refreshed,
Tired,
Anxious,
Calm,
Or somewhere in between,
This time is an opportunity to meet yourself with kindness and curiosity.
As we practice together,
See if you can let go of any expectations.
Simply notice each moment as it unfolds,
Perhaps setting an intention to carry a little more presence,
Compassion,
And mindfulness with you into the day ahead.
So just beginning by finding a comfortable position,
You might be sitting upright in bed,
You might be resting on a chair or seated on a cushion.
Wherever you have found yourself for this practice,
Just allow the body to settle naturally.
And before doing anything else,
Before planning,
Before checking,
Striving or rushing,
Just pause.
Notice that you have arrived in a new morning.
You don't need to feel any particular way right now.
You don't need to create a perfect sense of calm.
Simply begin by noticing what is already here.
As best you can,
Feeling the weight of the body.
The contact with the bed,
The chair,
Or the floor beneath you.
Feeling the breath move naturally.
No need to change the breathing in any way.
Just allowing yourself to receive each inhale.
And soften with each exhale.
Perhaps noticing the quality of the morning.
The light in the room,
The sounds around you.
The temperature of the air against the skin.
Letting yourself gently wake into this moment.
And as thoughts begin to move through the mind,
Plans,
Worries,
Reminders,
Expectations,
See if it's possible to notice them with kindness.
Not needing to push them away.
Not needing to follow every thought,
Just acknowledging.
Thinking is here.
And then softly returning to the feeling of breathing.
You might notice that the mind wants to move ahead into the day.
But for now,
There's nowhere else you need to be.
Just this breath.
Just this moment of arriving.
And perhaps asking yourself gently,
What would it feel like to meet this day with a little more presence?
Not perfection.
Not control.
Just presence.
Maybe allowing a small intention to emerge naturally.
Something simple.
To move a little slower,
To listen more deeply.
To come back to the breath during difficult moments.
To notice beauty where you can.
No pressure to hold on to that intention perfectly,
Just planting a seed.
Now once again,
Noticing the body sitting here.
The face.
The shoulders.
The hand.
Allowing any unnecessary tension to soften,
Even if that's just slightly.
Take one fuller breath in.
And a slower breath out.
And as this meditation comes to an end,
Remembering.
You do not have to rush to begin the day.
See if you can carry even a small sense of this awareness with you.
One breath at a time.
One moment at a time.
And when you're ready,
Gently opening the eyes and continuing with your morning.
And I hope you have a wonderful rest of the day.
