Loving ourselves is sometimes easier said than done.
But it is important that we love ourselves because the relationship we have with ourselves is the longest lasting one we'll ever have.
And it should also be the best.
This short meditation will give you a quick boost in self-love by reminding you how it feels to be loved.
Begin by finding a comfortable seat.
Close your eyes and just breathe for a few moments.
There's no need to control or change the breath just breathe naturally.
Love feels good.
It feels warm,
Safe,
Comforting.
It's all-encompassing,
Enveloping you in the feeling.
Sometimes we confuse it with other feelings or we're blinded by pretty words or conflicting actions from someone else.
But when love is real and unconditional,
It's unmistakable.
Think of someone who gave you unconditional,
Real,
True love.
This might be a parent or a grandparent or sibling,
Perhaps a close childhood friend.
Maybe it's even your child.
Think of someone who has always loved you,
Has believed in you,
Who has looked at you and talked about you as if you hung the moon and all the stars single-handedly.
See this person's face in your mind.
Take in all the details.
See the smile,
The glint in their eyes.
Take in the shape of their nose,
The wrinkles on their forehead or beside the eyes or mouth.
See them as clearly as if they were standing in front of you right now.
Feel their love for you.
Think of all the things they've said about you or to you that show how much they love you.
Think of everything they've done that shows you their love.
See that look of love on their face.
Feel that love as if they were present with you right now.
Pouring that love into you.
Imagine a beautiful,
Soft pink light coming from their heart to yours and in that light,
Feel the love.
Lift your hands and rest them over your heart.
Let go of the image of the other person,
But hold on to the love.
Feel that love infuse your heart,
Spreading that pink light out from your heart to the rest of your body.
Now take a moment to imagine loving yourself this much.
Imagine giving yourself this much love every day.
What could you accomplish?
How would you be different?
The pink light now envelopes your whole body,
Spreading out to form a circle around your body.
This pink circle of light is warm and soft.
Keep resting in this love.
Imagine resting in it every day.
When you feel ready,
Come back to the present moment and open your eyes.
Use this meditation anytime you need a quick boost of self-love.
