This is a shower meditation.
This is a meditation meant to be played on your phone or other electronic device,
Preferably with a speaker to amplify the sound as you take a shower.
So step into your shower,
Get the water running to a comfortable temperature.
And when you're ready,
Close your eyes.
And as you step under the spray of the water,
Note the temperature.
Is it a hot shower?
Cold shower?
Is it lukewarm?
Is the temperature just right?
It's a little too hot,
A little too cold.
Tip your head back under the water.
And note how it feels as the water begins to drench your hair.
It doesn't just make your hair wet,
It makes it feel heavier.
It flattens against your scalp.
Maybe it clings to your neck.
Your shoulders,
Your back.
The texture changes as it goes from dry to wet.
Go ahead and grab your shampoo.
Squeeze some into your hands.
Rub your hands together to get a lather going.
Notice how it feels as that lather begins to form between your hands.
Then glide your hands over your hair.
Begin to work the shampoo into the wet strands.
Notice the change in how your hair feels now that it's not just wet,
But coated with shampoo.
Maybe it starts to feel a little bit lighter now,
With airy bubbles of shampoo in between the strands.
Rub your fingers against your scalp,
Giving yourself a nice massage.
Gently make sure this massage sits together from side to side,
And you're estoing against your scalp.
Go ahead and rinse out the shampoo now.
Notice how the water feels against your head,
Your shoulders,
Your back.
See if you can feel the shampoo lather as it slips off your hair,
Over your body,
Down to the bottom of the shower or the tub.
And now grab your conditioner,
Squeeze a little into your hand,
And then again rub your palms together and smooth them over your hair.
Slip your fingers in and out of your hair,
Trying to coat all of the strands with conditioner.
Notice how your hair starts to feel more slippery as the conditioner begins to work its way in.
And then again,
Rub your palms together and smooth them over your hair.
And now go ahead and rinse the conditioner from your hair.
Use your hands and see if you can notice a change in texture as the conditioner is washed away and just wet hair is left behind.
And now it's time to grab your body wash,
Your washcloth or loofah or whatever you use.
Apply your body wash,
Lather it up,
And begin to wash your body.
As you wash each part of your body,
Imagine that your washcloth or loofah is also washing away any tension or tightness in the muscles beneath the skin.
Take your time,
Lingering a little longer over any areas that feel particularly tight or tense,
Washing those areas until the muscles begin to feel a little more relaxed.
As you continue to wash your body and relax tight muscles,
Inhale deeply.
And now,
The fragrance of your body wash.
What does it smell like?
Don't just give it the name that's on the bottle.
See if you can identify individual notes.
If you smell flowers,
See if you can identify which flowers.
If you smell citruses,
See if you can identify specifically,
Is it orange,
Lemon,
Lime?
See what specific fragrance notes you can identify as you inhale fragrance of your body wash.
And now,
As you step back under the spray to rinse away the body wash,
As best you can,
Imagine a warm golden light coming out of your shower head.
This warm golden light is like honey,
Slow and thick.
And as it oozes over your entire body,
It relaxes you.
Its thick,
Slow,
Syrupy nature drags away with it any leftover tension,
Any tightness,
Any lingering thoughts,
The things that stressed you out today,
Any lingering stress.
It's washing away your day,
Leaving your body,
Your mind,
Feeling fresh,
Renewed.
Now,
Imagine that that golden light is fading,
Making its way down your body toward the shower drain.
And now,
A silver light is raining down on you from the shower head.
And the silver light feels cool and refreshing and energizing.
As it rains down on you,
It makes you feel calm,
Peaceful,
Ready to relax and enjoy the rest of your day.
You may stay under the spray of the silver light for as long as you like.
When you're ready,
You can open your eyes,
You can turn off your shower,
You can step out,
Dry off,
And go about your day.
