Hello,
My sweet listener.
Welcome to Storytime with Nana Jojo.
I'm so happy you're here.
I'm Nana Jojo,
And I have another fun story to share with you today.
But first,
Let's get cozy.
Grab your favorite stuffie.
Wrap up in your softest blanket.
And snuggle in nice and tight.
And now let's take some slow,
Deep breaths together.
When we breathe slowly,
Our bodies feel calm and relaxed.
So take a big breath in through your nose.
And breathe out with a happy sigh,
Like this.
Hmmmm.
.
.
Let's do that again.
Big breath in.
And breathe out.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh One more time.
Big breath in.
And breathe out.
Hmmmm.
.
.
Super duper job.
Do you feel nice and relaxed?
Yay,
I do too!
Okay,
My sweet little one,
Come snuggling close.
This is the sweet story of Chicken Little.
It's a story about a little chicken.
A sunny farmyard,
And a very big surprise.
It's filled with worried friends.
A clever fox.
And the discovery that when something scary happens,
The best thing we can do is stop and breathe and look around before we worry.
Are you ready?
Okay,
Let's begin.
Once upon a time,
In a sunny little farmyard,
There lived a small fluffy chicken named Chicken Little.
Chicken Little had soft yellow feathers and big,
Bright brown eyes,
And she loved nothing more than pecking for seeds under the old oak tree.
One warm afternoon,
Chicken Little was scratching in the dirt,
Looking for her favorite lunch of little seeds,
When all of a sudden,
Sunk.
Something small and hard bonked her right on the head.
Oh my!
Said Chicken Little,
Rubbing her head with her wing.
Oh my!
Oh my!
Oh my!
The sky is falling.
I must go tell everyone.
Now,
My sweet little one,
It wasn't the sky at all.
It was just a small brown acorn that had fallen from the big oak tree.
But Chicken Little was so surprised and so sure of what had happened that she didn't stop to look up and check.
She just started running.
Pat,
Pat,
Pat,
Pat,
Went her little chicken feet across the farmyard.
The first friend she met was Henny Penny,
Who was pecking calmly by the fence.
Henny penny,
Henny penny,
Cried Chicken Little.
The sky is falling.
I felt it hit my head.
We must run and tell the king.
Henny Penny's eyes went wide.
Oh,
My goodness.
Are you sure,
Chicken Little?
Yes,
I am sure,
Said Chicken Little.
Come with me.
And because Henny Penny trusted her friend.
She didn't stop to look up.
She just joined in and ran with Chicken Little.
Soon they met Ducky Lucky by the pond.
Then,
Goosey-loosey by the barn.
And turkey lurkey under the fence.
Each time Chicken Little told her story,
And each friend believed her.
They all joined in and they ran together without ever once stopping to look up at the sky.
Soon there was quite a parade of worried friends,
Running and waddling and flapping across the farmyard.
The sky is falling.
The sky is falling.
We must tell the king,
They cried.
Now,
Deep in the woods nearby,
There lived a clever fox named Foxy Loxy.
He heard all the commotion.
All that pat,
Pat,
Patting,
And quack,
Quack,
Quacking,
And gob,
Gob,
Gobbling.
And he smiled a sly little smile.
Well,
Now,
Said Foxy Loxy to himself,
A whole parade of worried friends running along without ever looking where they're going.
I believe I'm gonna have some fun with this.
Foxy Loxy stepped out onto the path,
Smiling his friendliest fox smile.
My goodness,
Whatever is the matter,
My feathery friends?
" he said sweetly.
The sky is falling and we're all running to tell the king.
They all cried together.
Oh,
How frightening,
Said Foxy Loxy,
Tilting his head.
I know a wonderful shortcut through my den that will get you to the king twice as fast.
Come right this way.
One by one,
The friends began to follow him toward his dark,
Shadowy den.
They were all so busy worrying about the sky falling that they forgot to think carefully about where they were going.
But right at that moment.
Just as Chicken Little was about to step toward the fox's den.
A soft breeze rustled through the oak tree above her.
And thumbs.
Another little acorn dropped right in front of her foot.
Chicken Little looked down at the small brown acorn on the ground.
Then she looked up.
She looked way up.
Up past the leaves.
Up past the branches of the oak tree.
And she could see all the way up to the blue sky.
It was calm and beautiful.
And exactly how it always was.
Said chicken little softly.
Oh,
My friends,
Wait!
Everyone stopped and listened to Chicken Little.
Look,
Said Chicken Little,
Holding up the little acorn in her wing.
It was never the sky at all.
It was only this.
This small acorn.
I'm so sorry,
Everyone.
I should have looked first.
And then they all looked at Foxy Loxy,
Who was standing very still by the dark opening of his den.
Foxy Loxy's friendly smile was fading.
And he looked a little worried.
Well,
Said Foxy Loxy quickly,
The shortcut's this way.
No need to fuss about acorns.
But Henny Penny,
Who was actually a wise old hen,
Put a wing gently in front of the group.
Thank you kindly,
Mr.
Fox,
She said,
But I think we'll all just go home the way we came.
All of us,
Together.
And so they did.
Chicken Little Henny Penny Daki Laki.
Goosey Lucy.
And Turkey Lurkey turned right around and walked calmly and safely back home to their sunny farmyard.
Foxy Loxy sighed and he slipped back into the shadows of the woods.
His sneaky trick hadn't worked.
The farmyard friends were too smart to fall for it.
That night,
The friends sat together under the old oak tree,
Watching the sky turn pink and gold as the sun went down.
I learned something important today,
" said Chicken Little.
When something surprising happens,
It's alright to feel a little scared.
But before I run and tell the whole wide world.
Next time,
I'm going to stop and take a breath.
And then I'll look up to see what's really happening.
That sounds very wise,
Said Henny Penny,
Tucking her wing around her.
And Chicken Little said with a smile,
I'm so glad I have friends who come running when I need them.
Even when the sky wasn't really falling at all.
And the friends all snuggled close together under the big oak tree as the first stars came out.
They were safe and warm and all together.
The End.
And so,
My dear little listener,
What did Chicken Little teach us in this story today?
She showed us that when something surprises us,
It's all right to feel scared.
But before we worry the whole world,
It helps to stop and think.
Take a slow breath and look closely at what's really true.
And Chicken Little showed us that we never have to face our surprises alone.
There are always friends nearby,
Ready to walk right beside us,
Safe and together.
As our story time comes to an end.
I want you to think of a calm,
Slow breath you can take the next time something surprises you.
You can carry that calm breath with you always,
Just like Chicken Little.
And just like her,
You can know that you always have friends and family close by who love you.
And of course,
Always remember that Nana Jojo loves you so very much.
I'll be right here when you're ready for another story.
And if you're not quite ready for sleep.
I hope you have the most wonderful rest of your day.
But if it is time to go to sleep now,
I'm wishing you the sweetest and happiest dreams.
Sleep tight,
My little love.
I'll see you again soon.
Good night.
