Today on Grounded with Wendy we are going to have a little visualization and meditation on the flow of life and I invite you to find a comfortable position.
Close your eyes if you'd like and take a settling deep breath in and out and perhaps slow the breath down just a little bit.
Settle into this moment.
And I'd like you to imagine yourself floating down a gentle river.
The current is nice and steady.
The water supports you and you're drifting and you're carried by the natural flow of life itself.
And now I'd like you to look to your left and notice the riverbank lined with rigid structures and towering walls of expectations,
Perfectionism,
Lots of rules.
This side of the riverbank feels tight and controlled and unyielding and if you cling to it you feel the pressure of needing to get everything just right in your life.
Holding yourself and maybe your loved ones to a pretty impossible standard.
To the right of the river the opposite bank tells a completely different story.
It is wild and untamed,
Chaotic with no structure.
On this side of the bank there are no boundaries,
No guides,
Only unpredictability and disorder.
And if you drift too far in this direction you can feel really lost,
Ungrounded and unsure of your next step in life.
But back here in the center of the river you are free.
You are held not by rigid rules or complete abandon but by the current that knows exactly where to take you.
Here in the flow you have space to breathe,
To move,
And to choose.
You have agency here.
Notice then where you tend to reach for the shore.
Do you cling to control and structure and certainty?
Or do you sometimes lose yourself in the drift of chaos where nothing really feels steady?
And the invitation today is to gently release your grip on either side of the river and feel the water beneath you steady,
Trustworthy,
Alive.
And feel the current guiding you.
You are not lost.
You are not stuck.
You are flowing with the river of life.
As you move with the river,
Remind yourself I can choose to flow with life.
I am free to navigate my own path.
I invite you to think about this river and the flow of life throughout your day and see if you are clinging to one side of the river.
See how you can move back to the flow of life.
And just the last thought.
The flow of life doesn't mean not effort.
But it does mean not clinging.
And as we end this short practice today,
Gently bring your awareness back to your body and to your surroundings.
And gently ease into your day or your evening and carry this sense of centeredness and flow with you.
Thank you for meditating with me.
