Rosie is a unique torpedo-shaped penguin with wet feet,
Powerful legs,
And an ego so huge it has swelled to the size of a pumpkin.
She is so vain that she believes she is a goddess obsessed with her own importance.
Her fur is so beautiful,
Snowy white on one side and midnight black on the other.
Her eyes are deep,
Fierce,
And reddish.
It seems lately Rosie has become selfish.
Every morning,
Rosie stands by the water looking at her reflection and declares,
I'm the best,
Greater than all the rest.
Look at me,
In all my splendor,
I can't think of any penguin better.
She skates then gracefully glides on the ice,
Trawling not once but twice to catch the attention of her fellow penguins.
Rosie's constant bragging has grown tiresome.
Her friends whisper amongst themselves,
Enough is enough,
Let's teach that show-off a lesson.
Next time she goes fishing,
And so they began to plot and plan,
Waiting for the chance to take proud Rosie down.
Rosie dove into the blue ocean,
Poking her head up to see who was noticing.
Everyone had disappeared right into thin air.
All she could hear was the sound of the waves crashing against the shore.
She felt confused,
Shattered,
And hurt,
Thinking,
Why would they vanish without even a word?
She swam for hours,
Looking for them everywhere,
Even deep in the caves.
She pulled herself up on the ice,
Reflecting on who she had become,
Seeing all her mistakes.
Exhausted,
Lonesome,
And sad,
Rosie bowed her head and prayed for another chance to correct her past.
And then she heard a familiar sound,
It was the voices of her friends,
Calling out her name.
Rosie,
Rosie,
They shouted as they gathered around.
She yelled back,
I'm racing to you as fast as I can,
I'm sorry for being conceited,
Self-centered,
And mean,
Will you forgive me?
She stood there shaking,
And waited for them to respond.
They had let go of their anger,
Opened their hearts,
And drew her into the center,
And said the undisturbed,
It's okay,
Rosie,
You will always belong.
She lifted her head up,
And softly thanked the divine.
She felt happy,
Warm,
And safe inside.
Rosie learned to bring that big ol' ego down,
And the value of friendship,
And being kind.
