After a lifetime of people-pleasing, it is time to return to the truth of who we are. "Remembering Who I Am" is a short, heartfelt reflection (inspired by IAMday2025) on releasing the need to shrink, to silence our joy, or to live in spaces too small for our soul. It is both a reminder and an invitation: you are worthy of taking up space, of walking away from what no longer resonates, and of living a life that truly brings you alive. This track closes with a few extra minutes of gentle music, offering space to reflect and journal if you wish, guided by the question: Who were you before the world told you who you should be? Background music by my friend and fellow teacher Blossom Violet, recorded LIVE on June 12, 2025. I once heard this quote,

What doesn't make you come alive is too small for you.

It really resonated,

But at the time I don't think I understood it as well as I do now.

For too long I thought shrinking was kindness,

Silence was safety,

Pleasing others would protect me from pain.

But people-pleasing is a mask,

And masks are heavy.

They hide our light until we forget where it shines.

After a lifetime of pleasing,

I finally know who I am.

I am worthy of taking up space.

Worthy of walking away from that which does not resonate.

Worthy of living a life that brings me joy.

Because joy is not selfish,

It's sacred.

It's the compass of the soul.

And when we follow it,

We step into the life we were always meant to live.

So ask yourself,

Where am I still shrinking?

Where am I still saying yes to what feels too small?

And what would it look like to choose joy instead?

Or to quote one of my favorite authors,

Who were you before the world told you who you should be?

Beautiful Violet, thank you! πŸ™πŸ» For me it was menopause that trashed my filter and seemed to destroy my peace along with my sleep but having gone through that it has left me more self assured and not caring what people think as much.

Beautiful words to reflect upon. Bring on the unraveling of societal threads and upbringings that bound our true and beautiful souls, our voices and choices to fit in and not ruffle anyone’s ego. Here’s to remembering and embracing our truths! Thank you Violet βœ¨πŸ’œβœ¨
