What happens in the first 30 minutes of your day has a profound impact on the rest of the day.
Taking time to get into the right mindset and nourishing yourself mentally has a positive effect over the rest of your day and how you deal with challenges that arise,
The way you interact with others,
The choices and decisions you make and how you feel physically,
Mentally,
Emotionally and spiritually.
Having a daily practice that you can use in the first 30 minutes of your day will set up your day in the right way and will have a positive impact on your life,
Your happiness and your wellbeing.
So before we start I'd just like you to take a moment to look around the room you are in and count the number of things that you can see that are black.
If there's nothing black then perhaps choose a different colour and just count how many of those things you can see.
Got that number?
Now close your eyes and give me the exact number of things in your room that are of blue.
And if you use blue the first time you can choose another colour.
Now if you've done this correctly you will not be able to give me a number of blue items because unless you have memorised your room you can't see them.
In the same way we can choose to focus on negativity or positivity.
If you spend your day thinking everything is against me then all you will see are the things,
Circumstances and situations that you feel are against you.
Like the focus on the black items.
And you will close your eyes to all the positive things,
All the blue coloured items that are around you.
However if you can catch yourself saying I'm having a bad day or everything's against me and you can change that to what a beautiful day or what a great day or wow positive things are happening for me today then that is what you will see,
That is what you will focus on and you will draw more of that into your awareness.
We can really encourage a good mindset and start the day from a space of calm and positivity by practising gratitude which has been proven to alter brain chemistry in just 26 seconds.
Meditation which connects us to the space of calm and peace which we then can take into our day and positive affirmations which are a powerful tool in changing the negative beliefs and negative thought patterns we have.
Mahatma Gandhi is quoted to have said,
Your beliefs become your thoughts,
Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions,
Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values and your values become your destiny.
This can help to realign our beliefs and thoughts to have a positive impact on our lives which then ripples out to positively impact those around us.
So I encourage you to try this meditation every morning for at least 3 weeks,
That's 21 days and see if you notice a difference in your mood and your outlook.
So when you are ready make yourself comfortable either sitting or lying down.
Close your eyes and allow yourself to soften and relax.
Take a moment to connect with your breathing.
If it's helpful you can place one hand onto the abdominals and feel the movement of the breath here.
Keep the breathing soft and relaxed.
And now invite a deeper breath into the body.
Breathing in deeply,
Hold for a moment at the top and then let the breath go and breathe out.
And again when you are ready breathing in deeply,
Hold,
Let go and breathe out.
And now just soften again and connect to and witness the natural spontaneous breath.
And now take a few moments in gratitude.
Take a few moments to think about all the things that you are grateful for,
All the things that you are thankful for.
And these don't have to be huge things but the everyday small things that we may take for granted.
Perhaps you have hot water in your house,
A soft bed,
A roof over your head,
Food in your fridge,
A fridge to keep it cool.
Maybe you are grateful for your family and friends,
Your pets,
Your health,
Your breathing,
The life in your body.
Take a few more moments here to experience gratitude.
Keep listing those things that you are grateful for.
And if you feel too you can expand the feeling as to why you are grateful for these things.
Just continue practicing gratitude for a few more moments.
Take a few more moments here to experience gratitude.
And now release the practice of gratitude.
And bring the awareness back to your breathing,
Your natural spontaneous breath.
You do not need to change the breath,
Just watch and witness your breathing.
Blowing effortlessly in and out without you doing.
As you breathe feel the energy of the breath,
The life energy that the breath brings into your body.
Feel the support of the breath and the ground beneath you through the surface you are lying on.
Feeling the support give yourself permission to let go and allow yourself to sink into that quiet,
Calm space of your heart centre.
Feel the energy of the heart centre of calm,
Peace and love.
And feel those energies spreading through your body with every beat of your heart.
Feeling calm,
Peace and love to fill your body,
Filling every cell and radiating out from the pores in your skin.
Surrounding you and supporting you.
Breathing into this space.
If you like you can colour the breath with a mantra,
Some words to help you stay connected to your breathing.
You do not need to change the breath in any way but as you breathe in you can mentally say calm and as you breathe out peace.
And then as you breathe in mentally say love and as you breathe out light,
Calm,
Peace,
Love,
Light.
Calm,
Peace,
Love,
Light.
Keep repeating the mantra allowing the words to follow the breathing.
The breathing is natural and spontaneous.
Calm,
Peace,
Love,
Light.
Calm,
Peace,
Love,
Light.
If you find it difficult to keep the words and breathing together then just let go of the breathing and just mentally repeat those words.
Calm,
Peace,
Love,
Light.
Continue with the practice and if the mind starts to wander simply bring it back to your breath and to your mantra.
Calm,
Peace,
Love,
Light.
Calm,
Peace,
Love,
Light.
Calm,
Peace,
Love,
Light.
Calm,
Peace,
Love,
Light.
Calm,
Peace,
Love,
Light.
Calm,
Peace,
Love,
Light.
Calm,
Peace,
Love,
Light.
Calm,
Peace,
Love,
Light.
And now release your mantra,
Your words.
Soften into the space of calm and peace.
And now repeat the following affirmations mentally after me.
I am beautiful.
Today is beautiful.
I am healthy in mind and body.
My thoughts and feelings deserve to be heard.
I am positive.
I am valuable.
I am allowed to rest.
I take care of myself.
I surround myself with positivity.
I am well.
I love my body.
I love myself completely.
I love myself unconditionally.
I am full of life and energy.
I have energy to complete all tasks.
I am strong.
I am powerful.
I am capable.
I am enough.
I am worthy.
I am impeccable with my word.
I always do my best.
I deserve happiness.
I embrace joy.
My life is abundant.
I am loved.
I open myself up to positivity.
I am safe.
I am confident.
I am calm and centered.
I make good and healthy choices.
I handle stressful situations with peace and positivity.
I am happy.
I am brave.
I am kind.
I am peace.
I am love.
I am light.
Today I will treat myself and others with kindness and love.
I give myself permission to show up right now as my best,
Most brilliant,
Most creative expression of myself.
I give myself permission to show up right now as my best,
Most brilliant,
Most creative expression of myself.
Now take a few moments to just mentally repeat or add any affirmations that really speak to you in this moment.
Take a few moments to just mentally repeat or add any affirmations that really speak to you in this moment.
And now let go of your affirmations and allow yourself to open up to all the possibilities that this day may bring.
Allow yourself to be open to the beautiful opportunities that arise,
Open to the peace and positive energy that is within you and around you and that can flow and guide you through your day.
Take a few more breaths here and when you are ready bringing the awareness back into your body you can wriggle the fingers and toes,
Stretch your body a little,
You are lying down rolling onto one side and when you are ready bringing yourself back into your day ready,
Positive.
Smile here,
Feel that smile all the way down into your tummy,
Smile in your tummy wishing you a peace filled positive day full of love and light and joy.
Namaste.
