Welcome to this meditation where we focus on resting.
Sabbath what does that word mean for you?
For many it is a day of reflection,
A day of faith,
A day of surrender,
A day of worship,
A day of acknowledging God in the presence of a higher power,
A day of detaching from the world and connecting with community and choosing peace.
In today's meditation whether you are a person of faith or not I invite you into this Sabbath space to think differently about life and how we choose to show up during times of stress.
Will we allow our problems to grow and grow and grow out of control or will we decide that some problems we can solve and some we can't?
And I know that's difficult especially in a world where some people thrive on problem-solving and maybe you do that for work every day or maybe you do it in your family life,
Maybe you do it with your friends,
Maybe you do it with your neighbors.
You are their person but today I want you to be your own best friend.
What would you say to your best friend who's feeling stressed and worried and sick and tired?
Would you tell your friend to rest?
Would you tell your friend it's okay to sit,
Be silent,
Take a deep breath in and a deep breath out?
Would you tell your friend that they aren't alone and that their life has value,
That you're happy,
That they're with you?
Would you tell your friend to choose peace over fear,
Choose the present over a future that has not yet arrived?
Choose faith.
This meditation invites you to make a choice that's best for you and if you don't get to make a lot of choices in life this is the one choice that you get to make.
No one can take away your choice to choose peace.
No one can take away your choice to choose rest and rest is bigger than just sleep.
Rest is about an internal decision to not be moved when life shakes you.
Some days are easy to rest in this knowingness and some days are hard and no matter what day it is for you may you acknowledge that all you need is within you.
You were born with a gift of prayer,
The gift of God's love.
In this moment may you receive it again and again and again until your cup runneth over.
