Hi,
I'm Tracy Salisbury and I will be guiding you through a meditation to prepare you for creative writing or journaling.
Before just diving into writing,
I like to meditate.
This helps me to settle my mind,
Calm my nerves.
Creative writing is an intimate practice that can draw you closer to yourself and it's important to make sure that you are as present as possible.
Okay,
If you're ready,
Let's get started.
Start by finding a position where you feel relaxed.
You can lay down or sit upright in a chair.
Feel the weight of your body sinking in and just gently close your eyes.
Let go of any pressure or expectation for what will happen in this moment.
Just feel into your body.
Release any tension in your shoulders and let them drop away from your ears.
Take a deep inhale,
Filling your belly with air and then slowly release that breath,
Extending the release and emptying out the lungs.
Notice the breath that flows in and out of your body,
How it expands and softens with each breath.
We are not changing our breath,
But noticing.
Unclench any tension in your jaw and you can give a slight smile,
Letting your nervous system know that everything is okay.
You are here in this moment and if your mind wanders,
That's okay.
The mind wanders.
Just return to noticing your breath.
This practice of returning to your breath can be helpful as you're journaling.
If you find it challenging to let the words flow out of you,
Come back to the breath.
Remind yourself that you are here in this moment and that everything is okay.
Now when you're ready,
Gently open your eyes and let's write.
