What if bedtime could become a moment of deeper connection instead of worry? This gentle guided meditation invites children to share their nighttime fears and discover that bravery isn’t about never feeling scared - it’s about learning to feel safe within the fear. Through calming breaths, hand-on-heart reassurance, and the enchanting story of a little star who learns the dark is a cozy blanket, children begin to see that love remains even when it’s unseen. The practice closes with a glowing “brave light” visualization and simple affirmations, helping little ones drift to sleep feeling safe, steady, and held. Hey Pumpkin,

Before we close our eyes tonight,

Can I ask you something?

Yeah.

Sometimes when I leave the room,

Does your heart feel a little wiggly or worried?

Yeah,

Sometimes it does.

Thank you for telling me,

And you know,

That makes so much sense.

Nighttime can feel big and quiet,

And when it gets quiet,

Our thoughts can get loud,

Can't they?

Mm-hmm.

Do you know something really important?

Being brave doesn't mean you're never scared.

It just means you're learning how to feel safe,

Even when you feel a little afraid.

What do you think feels the scariest part about bedtime for you?

Is it the dark,

Or the quiet,

Or maybe being alone?

And where do you feel that in your body?

Well,

Sometimes when I'm in my bedroom,

I sometimes feel lonely and get afraid of the dark.

Yeah,

And when you feel that lonely feeling,

Do you feel it somewhere in your body?

I feel it in my heart.

Okay.

Well,

Let's put one hand on your heart,

And I'm going to put my hand on your hand.

You feel that?

Mm-hmm.

And your heart is still beating strong.

You feel your heart beating?

Yeah.

That means you're safe.

Let's take one slow breath in together,

Okay?

Okay,

So we're going to breathe in through our nose,

And breathe out through our mouth.

In through your nose like you're smelling a flower,

And out like you're blowing out a candle.

Good.

And now I'm just going to tell you a little story,

Okay?

Once upon a time,

There was a little star who lived in the sky.

And every night,

When it was time to glow softly and rest,

The little star felt nervous.

The sky felt so big,

So dark,

So quiet.

Kind of like what you were saying about how you feel in your room.

And then the little star thought,

What if I stop shining?

What if it's too dark?

What if I'm all alone up here?

And so the moon came a little closer,

And the moon said,

Little star,

You're never alone.

Even when it feels quiet,

The whole sky is holding you.

And the little star said,

But what if I feel scared?

And the moon said,

Then you glow anyway.

Not big and bright,

Just softly.

Just enough to remind you that you're still here.

And do you know what the little star discovered?

Was it that it was never alone?

Yeah,

That's awesome.

And it also discovered that the dark wasn't trying to swallow her.

The dark was like a cozy blanket,

And it helped her to rest.

And it helped her to grow stronger for the next day.

And even when the clouds covered her,

Even when she couldn't see the other stars,

They were still there.

Just like love.

Even when you can't see it,

It's still there.

Do you know what I think?

What?

I think you're a lot like that little star.

And when I leave the room,

It might feel dark and quiet,

But that doesn't mean you're alone.

The house is holding you.

Your bed is holding you.

Your blankets are hugging you.

Your favorite stuffies are hugging you.

And even when I'm not in the room,

My love is still here.

And then,

Right where your heart is,

I'm still right here with you as I tap your heart.

It lives right here.

All right,

Now let's imagine something together.

I want you to picture a tiny glowing light in your chest,

And I want you to picture,

What color is it?

Light pink.

Light pink?

All right,

That's your favorite color.

Well,

That light,

That light pink,

Is your brave light.

And it doesn't have to be huge.

It can just grow and glow softly,

And every time you breathe in,

It gets a tiny bit brighter.

All right,

Now let's take three slow breaths together.

Take another deep breath in.

And then we blow out like we're blowing out a candle.

Another deep breath.

Blow the candle out.

And one more.

Blow the candle.

And with every breath,

Your body gets heavier.

Your arms feel warm and sleepy.

Your legs feel cozy and still.

And we figure out,

After all,

The dark is not empty.

It's peaceful.

All right,

You want to do some affirmations together?

Yeah.

All right,

So I'm going to say a line,

And then you can repeat it with me,

Okay,

After?

All right.

I am safe.

I am safe.

I am loved.

I am loved.

Even when it's dark,

I am okay.

Even when it's dark,

I'm okay.

My room is a safe place.

My room is a safe place.

I can feel brave even if I feel scared.

I can feel brave even if I feel scared.

Love stays with me.

Love stays with me.

All right,

And you want to do some of your favorite affirmations?

Yes.

Okay.

You are on fire.

You are important and valued.

Thank you for being awesome.

You are simply the best.

You are exceptional.

Having you around makes all the difference in the world.

I am so thankful for you.

I believe in you.

There's no other way to say it.

We'd be lost without you.

I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Your enthusiasm is infectious.

You are brilliant.

You are a superstar.

You are crushing it.

That's awesome.

Thank you for sharing that.

Do you want to repeat the ones that we did together one more time too?

Yeah.

All right.

And you can just close your eyes even when you say it.

I am safe.

I am safe.

I am loved.

I am loved.

Even when it's dark,

I am okay.

Even when it's dark,

I am okay.

My room is a safe place.

My room is a safe place.

I can feel brave even if I feel scared.

I can feel brave even if I feel scared.

Love stays with me.

Love stays with me.

Yeah.

Awesome.

How do you feel?

I feel good.

Yeah.

And relaxed.

Good.

And just remember,

We know mommy always comes back in the morning.

All right.

I'm going to step out now.

And your brave light stays on.

That light pink,

Beautiful light.

And if you wake up,

Just put your hand on your heart.

And remember,

You are safe.

You are loved.

And morning always comes.

I love you,

Pumpkin.

I love you,

Too.
