Guided Meditation For Letting Go Of The Past
by Tim Ellerbe
This is a guided meditation that centers on releasing past hurts. Oftentimes we forget to do this in the chaos of life. This is also the first time I have had the honor of working on a specific guided meditation. I am confident my words of wisdom will be sure to soothe your soul and lead you into a place of healing.

This is the beginning of what you imagine your life can be from this moment.
For far too long you've imagined that your life was over,
That you've gone through too much heartache,
Pain,
Trauma,
Depression,
So that you feel inside that you cannot be restored.
But today,
In this very moment,
Is your restoration.
I want you to take a deep breath with me.
Inhale and hold that.
Three,
Two,
And let it out.
Take another deep breath.
Three,
Two,
One,
Exhale.
Close your eyes.
Be in the moment,
This very moment.
The past is irrelevant.
The future is irrelevant.
The only thing that concerns you is this moment,
Where you are right now.
Within this time,
You can see and feel and recall everything that has hurt you in your life.
All those things that keep you from moving ahead.
All of that baggage that you've been carrying for far too long.
Things that were given to you by those who meant no goodwill towards you.
Everything that was given to you,
Was given to you by external sources.
People outside of yourself.
It does not belong to you,
But you carry it as if it originated with you.
So in this moment,
As you give thought to that very large baggage on your back,
Ask yourself,
Why do you carry it?
Why is it all so important to you to have this baggage everywhere you go?
Stay in this moment with me.
Ask yourself,
Why is it that when someone gives a slight to you or harms you,
You add that slight or that harm as a reality to the baggage that you carry?
Again,
All of that was given to you by external sources,
And it is time to let it go.
To leave it by the side of the road,
Knowing full well that it does not serve you.
It never served you.
Much of it only served to make you feel bad about yourself,
Inadequate,
Inconsequential,
Forgotten about.
Oh,
But you are valuable.
A very valuable creation created by a loving creator who wants a relationship with you.
While you can rest assured that those who left you with this baggage have no such intention.
They would like to see you fall.
They would like to see you fail.
They would like to see you continue to suffer,
And they are getting their wish as long as you carry this baggage.
So my friend,
We are going to leave this baggage by the side of the road,
Never to pick it up again.
Take another deep breath with me in this moment,
And release that.
I want you to take another deep breath,
And this time when you do,
Undo one of those straps securing that baggage to your back.
Deep breath in,
And exhale.
Now on this next breath,
I want you to undo the second strap.
Deep breath,
And exhale.
Now in this moment,
No matter how large of a weight that is,
How big of a bag that is,
I want you to shrug it off of your shoulders and feel it hit the ground behind you.
I want you to be aware that the weight is no longer there.
You can move your shoulders freely.
Your back feels much better not having to support all of that.
Scared to stretch,
Literally stretch.
One arm up,
And then the second stretch,
And relax.
In this moment,
Relax.
It does not matter what you just dropped to the ground.
It never was important because it was not yours.
It wasn't yours to hold on to.
It wasn't yours to carry.
The only thing that will put you back in that bondage,
To that baggage,
Is if you consciously choose to pick it back up and strap it back to yourself.
Scripture says,
He that the Son has set free is free indeed.
Be not again entangled with the yoke of bondage.
That baggage was your bondage.
If you are indeed free,
Then you are free.
Liberty for yourself in this moment because your Creator desires you to be free.
That has always been his intention.
It was never the Creator's intention that anyone would come and oppress you.
From the beginning,
We were meant to live freely.
It doesn't matter what this world says.
It doesn't matter that they charge us for every single thing.
It doesn't matter that people dislike you for being from the east side or the west side or gay or straight or Republican or Democrat or black or white.
None of that matters because they are all hindrances to freedom and liberty.
They are all things that will help us fill up our baggage all over again if we are not careful to not walk under that yoke of bondage again.
I repeat,
He that the Son has set free is free indeed.
Free indeed.
Free indeed.
Say it with me.
Free indeed.
I am free indeed.
I am free.
I am free indeed.
I am free in this moment and every moment beyond that.
Remember that.
Be aware moving forward of those who would give you things that they expect you to put in a brand new bag and start to carry that.
Reject that.
Those are their issues and they are not yours.
They are not for you to carry.
They are not for you to learn to carry again.
Be free indeed.
So in this moment,
Right now,
In all of your liberty,
Take a deep breath and exhale.
Take a second breath and exhale.
Relax your shoulders.
Relax your entire body.
The phantom weight of the baggage may still seem there but that's because you were so used to carrying it.
But in this moment is where we are and it's lying on the ground behind you.
Now walk away from it.
One step after a second step,
A third step,
A fourth step and you're leaving it behind because you are free indeed.
A fifth step,
A sixth,
A seventh,
Eight,
Nine,
Ten,
Eleven,
Twelve,
Thirteen,
Fourteen,
Fifteen,
Sixteen,
Seventeen,
Eighteen,
Nineteen.
Now you're running away from it because you are free,
Weightless,
Full of joy,
Full of life,
Being restored to what the Creator originally intended for you.
To take that joy in that life and give it to someone else.
To share your experiences with someone else.
So they too may take on the mantra,
I am free indeed because He that the Son has set free is,
Not maybe,
Not might be,
Is free indeed.
Give the Creator thanks in this moment,
In every moment.
Be grateful for this liberty,
For this freedom and be not again entangled with that yoke of bondage.
Your outlook on life from here will be one of awareness of the things that can oppress you,
That can bring you down.
But the world is a place where there is light and darkness.
We must learn to balance our life within that light and that darkness.
Upon the mountain and within the valleys,
None of it matters.
The Creator can get you through every single situation if you trust and follow that voice,
Not the voices of those who seek to do you harm or to oppress you or to cause you to be fearful or in despair.
None of that is of the light.
None of that is of the Creator.
In this moment,
As you run away happily,
Joyfully from that baggage that you left behind,
Give thanks to the Creator.
Be obedient to that voice.
Ask for wisdom to learn to be balanced in this world so that nothing affects you like that ever,
Ever again.
Ask for wisdom to spot those well in advance who would hurt you or oppress you or cause you to feel like you're less than nothing.
Ask for wisdom and discernment for that,
And you shall have that.
Be in this moment,
Every moment.
Grow beyond what you thought was possible.
Live beyond what you imagined was possible.
And do not forget,
Always give thanks to the Creator for every freedom.
And say again,
I am free indeed.
Take one more deep breath and release.
Now go and be free.
Blessings to you.
